So far, I have gotten 127.0.0.1:81 and my internal IP, 192.168.1.101:81, to bring up my webpage. My only problem is that my external address is not doing the same. When I type 69.132.36.199:81, a MSN auto-search pops up. I have a Linksys router, and I followed the instructions that were previously posted on "forwarding". There are two laptops connected to the router, with only one having the webserver. I am wondering if this is the problem: when I go to www.whatismyip.com, the same external IP address is displayed for each laptop (69.132.36.199). I really am not sure what to do....I have switched the port from "80" to "81", but obviously, not luck there. However, in the router setup for forwarding, there are "Start" and "End" port boxes, and I have just used 0 for start and either 80 or 81 for the other. Thanks for reading....any help would be greatly appreciated!!

And there's your problem. Enter 81 for start and end. Then, make sure you enter the correct Internal IP address in the text box.

Just tried that and it did not work. However, the page that came up was not a MSN auto-search, but "The page cannot be displayed." Thanks for posting.

The internal IP address is typed in correctly. The router only lets my type in the last set of numbers (192.168.1.*). I have typed 192.168.1.101 into the router for forwarding.

Just for testing purposes, turn off port forwarding, and add your computer to the DMZ. When you do this, make sure your system is fully patched, though, because DMZ makes your computer fully open on the internet.

Ok, I disabled the forwarding, and enabled DMZ with 192.168.1.101. After that, I typed this into IE: "http://69.132.36.199:81/". Still no webpage.

Ok, for some reason, you might be using a proxy. Go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings>Check for a proxy. If it is, remove it, and go to www.whatismyip.com to get your IP again.

Well, I'm sure that I'm using a proxy...when I start IE, the text down at the bottom left says "detecting proxy settings." When I go to the LAN settings, no box is checked under Proxy server, or automatic configuration. My ISP is roadrunner, which could supply the proxy, or the router?? (I don't really know)

It says that, but that doesn't mean you're using a proxy server.

Try a completely random port (change it in Abyss and Linksys), such as 21208.

Well, I am really sorry about this problem, but it just isn't working. Is it common for all computers on a network to have the same External IP address (69.132.36.199). That is the case here with these two laptops. Also in the router config, it has login type as Auto Config--DHCP, and the IP address as 69.132.36.199....if that means anything to you. Anyway, thanks for responding to my posts.

(Not to mention you misplaced the one).
Anyway, do you run any other type of firewall--such as ZoneAlarm? Also, configure Abyss on the Laptop and see if you can get it to work (just for testing purposes).

I'm actually having the same problem. I tried the steps you posted on here and still no luck. I tried contacting Linksys about it, but they put me on hold for about 45 min. I don't think they know how to solve the problem so they just ignored me. I connected my computer directly to my cable modem and it worked fine. I'm starting to think my router is broken.

Thank you for the advise! You helped me more than the Linksys tech support!

Unless your router has loopback support, you'll never access your webpage using that IP address from within the same network. You need to check it from outside the network. Disconnect the non-serving laptop, go online with a modem, then check.
