Okay Well im a newbie and Im trying to basically setup a local website where all I have to do is type in my ip-address and I can find files from my site anywhere Im at. I know my ip-address changes, But its not offen. Heres what I have...

Abyss Web Server X1 (v 1.2.2.2)
Copyright © Aprelium Technologies - 2001-2004

Web server local URL: http://127.0.0.1/
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999/

I have a Dlink DI-604 router and here are my settings..
The server is running off of 127.0.0.1:9999 and my pc is 192.168.0.101

This is my virtual Server settings

This is my Firewall

And I have DMZ which I would have to change the server IP address to use..

At this point I can type in my ip address and see my website locally. But not one else can see it.

Please help...

Andy

All your images are broken. Please read my tutorial at http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3806 for instructions about port forwarding.

Ok. It looks like you have two different forwarding methods set up. DMZ is set to some computer at 192.168.0.110, but you said you were located at 192.168.0.101. Also, your "Virtual Server HTTP" is set to 127.0.0.1, when it should be set to 192.168.0.101. If you have no other computer at 192.168.0.110, then disable the DMZ. Then set "Virtual Server HTTP" to forward to 192.168.0.101 instead of 127.0.0.1. This should fix your problem.

Also, under your firewall section, change ALL entries that are set at 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.0.101.

Any other ideas...

By the way i do have index.html in the htdocs with in the directory of abyss folder.

so the address im trying to pull my site up with is:
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/index.html
or
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9999/index.html

Thanks,

Andy

Ok. You did the right thing by changing them all. First, do you have any Firewall software running? If so, disable it, and see if it works. If it does work after that, then I can help you configure access rules to let Abyss past.

If you don't have another firewall, disable all of those forwarding options, and then enable your DMZ to 192.168.0.101.

This is my only firewall at this point. I am curious about hackers and the threat im am causing by doing this.

Well Im typing in..

http://Myip/index.html No luck
and
http://myip:9999/index.html and no luck still

Do the users have to be set now?
Patiently waiting..

Thanks for all the help..

If you move your PC into the DMZ and have no software firewall, you're just asking for trouble, especially if you're sloppy with your Windows Updates. Don't use DMZ unless you're very confident about the security of your system. If you've moved your PC into the DMZ and the website still isn't working, you have real issues...

When you say you type http://myip do you mean your LAN or WAN IP - if you're typing your WAN IP whilst on your LAN, it is not going to work. Most routers cannot handle loopback connections, even with DMZ enabled.

He is using a D-Link router, which cannot handle loopback. The only way to see if your website is working from the outside world is to see if someone else can view it. Go to http://www.delorie.com/web/headers.html and enter your real-world IP address (get it at www.whatismyip.com). If the headers get returned properly (if you see "Abyss/1.2.2.2"), then you did it correctly.

when I went to http://www.delorie.com/web/headers.html

I typed in my ip like this:
http://myip:9999/

This is the ip that my cable company gives me. Not the local ip.

I got this HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
Content-Type: text/html
Connection: Close
Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 00:44:47 GMT
Server: Abyss/1.2.2.2 (Win32) AbyssLib/1.0.9
WWW-Authenticate: Basic Realm="Access to Abyss Web Server Console"

Im guessing thats a success?

How do you mean? If you're referring to make sure no one is leeching off your images, that feature will be included in the next version of Abyss.

Since you are behind a D-Link router, you will not be able to view your website from your external IP. Only people outside your network can view it from the external IP. If you want to view it, type "192.168.0.101" and if you want others to view it, give them the IP you find at www.whatismyip.com.

My point exactly, I can not get my website from and external ip. I have tried accessing my site from work and it doesnt work. When I tryied accessing it from the test site ealier it said 401 not authorized

So how do i give public access to a folder or what have you that there is no required logon to view.

But I thought the HTTP Headers gave you a postive response? When you view it from inside your network, you should get "401 The web site is blocked by administrator" or something similar. If you view it from outside, it should work.

Are both not working?

Works from internally with no problems. I can surf everything. But from an external ip it says page cannot be displayed.

Andy

PS: Im curious I have the server running of port 9999 and I have that unlocked by my firewall aswell as the virtual server shown about. The port 80 where is that used and why is 9999 important and so it the 9999 I though I was using one or the other.

FYI..
When I view my page internally its on http://127.0.0.1:9999/

No, 127.0.0.1 will always work. That is localhost. You need to go back and either cofigure Virtual Servers or DMZ on the Abyss machine. Just to make sure the internal IP hasn't changed, type "ipconfig" in the command prompt. Also, check www.whatsmyip.com to make sure your external IP hasn't changed.

Okay Problem solved. I had the 9999 for the console instead of the server config. Therefore it was not letting me in.

Anyway Its working now.. I do appreciate all the help..
