Yes currently I have read an artical that .htaccess is a sure fire way to protect my mp3 directory. I will quote a remark the guy who wrote the tutorial.
"htaccess is an Apache thing, not an NT thing. There are similar capabilities for NT servers, though in my professional experience and personal opinion, NT's ability in these areas is severely handicapped. But that's not what we're here for."
I am running Windows XP Pro with Your abyss server 1.2.2.2 version. I love it its easy to use and great would love to get this type of sercurity working with it. If any questions or comments plz let me know i followed the tutorial from this website DirectLink:http://wsabstract.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml
I am pretty confident I dotted my I and crossed my T's and did it exactly like he asked me to do. Please any help would be very much greatfull. Thanks in Advance

You just said yourself,

You're using Abyss, not Apache - .htaccess files do not work with Abyss. If you want to setup password protected directories/files you need to set up users and permissions in the Abyss console. Have a look at the Users and Groups configuration and Access Control options.

and if you need to password protect every mp3 file without
effecting the directory listings so you can let the users still
view the mp3 list , type this as a access path /*.mp3
every mp3 on your site will be password protected.
Screw htaccess , its a waste of your time ! |

It's not a waste of time - there are still plenty of features in .htaccess that Abyss lacks - the IndexIgnore directive is particularly useful... |

Different tools for different uses... The pro version of Abyss will be a better program to compare with Apache by the sound of things. |

I like IndexIgnore because you can choose which directories to ignore. With Abyss, you can either choose "show the files" or not. _________________ Bienvenidos! |
