I wasn't sure if this goes in cgi scripts or where...but I need a script or something that will stop people from leeching images. I found one at cgi-scripting.com but I can't get it to work properly. I understand from searching the forums that the next version of Abyss will have this, but I didn't see how long it will be before the next version is released. So does anybody have a script that works? or approx. how long until next abyss is released?
The leechers are starting to get out of control... _________________ My site and forums |

their is a PHP script on my website that keeps people from linking
to your images , but some people that have firewalls that block
referers might not be able to view the images. Try it!
Just leave a note that some firewalls
may block your images from being
shown , even apache works the same
exact way for its URL Rewriting.

Do you have an example of this script in action ? All the images on your site seem to be normal ones, not protected... |

Nm... appears that it does not work. I have probably configured something wrong :/ ohwell the script looks nice and it is very small. |

It works for me , like I said , it could be your firewall lol :D
A picture of what my image looks like
when I linked to it from my web server.
P.S. You can't link directly to the image with a link.
you need to create a image tag and have it be shown
from than on that way it knows your the owner lol.

That's funny... I also put a lot of random HTML pages as "dude.html"
Anyway, I ironically experienced this image protection script a couple minutes before viewing this thread. Someone had gave a link to an image, but when you clicked on it, the page said "Sorry, but URL "urlnamehere.com" is not allowed to access this image." It apparently uses referrers to determine who is leeching. But to easily trick it, I just clicked in the Address Bar and hit "enter" (different than a refresh; I requested to go to that URL) and the image worked. It was because there was no referrer (just like I had typed the URL in directly).
Just thought I might warn you about this easy to work around hole; meaning if someone wants to see one of your images, they will. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I'm trying this script on a test page, and I am just getting a red x. Also, I'm not worried about someone getting my images, I just don't want someone using it as a background for their website if they are going to use my bandwidth to do it. Somebody is using a pic on my site as the background on theirs and I noticed it's only been hit 20 times so far, which isn't bad, but I don't really need that (bad web design practice anyway on his part). His site wasn't much, just a free one I think, but I couldn't find any way to contact him except for his aim. I was thinking about making a picture that said stop leeching and putting it in place of the one he's using. _________________ My site and forums |

I got the image leeching script from the website
http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/protectimages.shtml
I just written instructions for it to make it be a little more easier.
See if that helps getting the script working properly. 8)
Edit: Read the Apache leeching tutorial and you will
see that even .htaccess files act as the same way.

Well if it is that kind of thing (backgrounds, etc) then there shouldn't be a problem. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Ahhh... I forgot that it needed to be linked as an image, that was dumb of me since its right there in the script. Well anyway here is an example page:
http://120u.com/dewd.html
and if you want to test the scirpt siimply look here:
(probably loads slow... its off of my dsl :/) |
