Hello! I was wondering if there is any way to get the taskbar icon to change somehow when there is a hit on the website? Maybe when someone connects the globe turns red for a configurable amount of time...

In a related vein, if you're interested in the last time your site was accessed, you might be interested in my tray application "end-of-log checker." You can find this on my (powered-by-Abyss) downloads page:

It sits in the System Tray and periodically -- you set the interval, e.g., I have mine set to 60 seconds -- reads your acess.log file. By hovering your mouse (no clicks necessary) over the tray icon, a tooltip will show up, telling you when your site was last accessed. (There's an option to exclude your own IP(s), so your testing won't interfere with real data, and if you do actually click on it, you can open your log file if you like.)
I wrote the program for me, i.e., I like it, anyway, and you may, too.

That'd be nice, however I run my website on an actual server (not a rackmount; but it is a deditcated server and not used for anything else). I wonder if there would be a way to check remotely.

Are you allowed to install whatever you want on the server ?
If so, I'd install SSH which will give you secure remote access via the command line, you can then use a Win32 version of the unix Tail command to view the last x lines of your access.log file... |

Oh well it comes down to that, I don't need to install SSH (I'de use telnet; I have no sensitive data going across). I have an FTP server that I can use, but instead I use "WebLog Expert" to view my logs. I just thought it would be nice to hover my mouse over somethng and see who the last person was.

Had the same experience, a few hours after installing the server, I saw the globe turning, did n't know what it was in the beginning.
It's a good laugh after. :oops: |
