Hmmm
Strange as I followed those instructions and all I get is...
Unable to locate any paramters!
So IM assuming it partly works, problem is what does it mean?
and how does one configure PHP.INI ? any help as I cant find any sites that explain PHP and how its configured or what the settings for.
any help is apprecisted as IM about to give up, been trying for the past year on and off and still cant get the 'php'king thing to work.
Cheerz

IM fed up
I keep taking one step forward and about three times as many backwards.
Been here http://os17fan.cjb.net/ and installed everything and the aliases in the config of abys, didnt like the /phpmyadmin or the scripts/phpmyuadmin settings so I had to abandon them, the server is still in a situation where it cant connect to the database and my normal http service wont work beyond the index.html, everything is down the pan.
I just dont understand why the abyss server couldnt work, why the instructions dont say from the outset that you need sevewral other programs and is very misleading in that fact. I have spent monthe reading and configuring and generally pissing aroiund with abyss server and PHP who were totally useless in their help or rather lack of, by pure chance I stumbled across an article that hinted that mySQL would be a benefit and just spent tome atr this site http://os17fan.cjb.net/ and find something about phpmyadmin, yet another program to install and configure.
Well I done everything, read the threads in this forum, made tweaks and changes to the .ini and config files, added and double checked that theirs no whitespaces and other mistakes and IM realy am stumped.
One final thing, why is it the really simple things are so hard to achieve??? all this pissing around and abyss could no doubt drum up an all-in-one wonder to do the job without half the messing around.
All I want is to get a php based message / foruim board up and running, no big deal but NO IT WONT 'PHP'king ave any of it.
Hurry up ppl, IM going bald from pulling me hair out.
IM on my hands n knees, not a pretty sight I can tell you... |

I may send you a voice recording of a computer that will explain how to install phpmyadmin , what problem are you having now , is it just the phpMyAdmin be cause I helped many users out on this forum and its funny that all of them got their stuff working , I created that os17fan.cjb.net web site and I spent time and time making it a perfect to follow tutorial and if that does not help , would you like a voice recording ? 8)

I changed my name from "os17fan" to "TRUSTpunk" 8) |

hmmm
after I sent the email
I had a think, yeah my head hurts but I made some progress....
in the alias, I put the DIR where the phpmyadmin is in the physical world...
eg.. C:\....server root...\scripts
then it loaded up when I used http://127.0.0.1/myphpadmin, it loaded up!
now that still dont mean that the boards gonna work yet, I have miles to go yet...
But carry on, I still need help or guidance as to what needs setting up, bit of a mine field this PHP lark.. |

Thats totally screwed, I now have an empty database with no privaleges and I cant configure anything to do with phpMyadmin as it reports that I have no privaleges, the page does not display correctly either, what do I need to do to correct this, I alreday tried uninmstall and re install but that made no difference.

thanks, but some how I dont think thats going to make any difference at all seeing as PHP is working, its the admin side of getting a database setup and linked to SQL.
According to Abyss, you should use 4.3.2 install of PHP to work.
This was working up until the phpmyadmin deletion of stuff as laid out in the setup instructions, no option was available to add a user after as deletion and all privaleges are revoked and I cant make up a database with something in it......
I have never experienced anything like this before, one of the most awkward installs I have ever done, more trouble than its worth ATM, just want the thing up and running so I can get on with it before I end up shelving it again for another 6 months.
Also I would like to know is why this board keeps defaulting to the 'overwrite' instead of the standard setting of 'Insert' text while composing, I find it annoying to say the least as I keep having to hit the 'Insert button'

Unfortunate as I dont use it... I use Yahoo over MSN anyday, but I still have a login thats valid and if I manage to dig up a copy of Trillian, I may see you on but as for MSN, will never use one of their clients ever again. Soz
But like I said, prefer email.

E-mail part is just signing up with hotpop.com e-mail and putting the smtp as smtp.hotpop.com and then your e-mail and password. If I can get senshi's phpMyAdmin working and MySQL , I can do it for you guy's also and the problem was that he/she used the default user Root and did not specify a username in the phpMyAdmin setup , so what happen was that he/she created a database and it rejected the submission because he/she didn't have proper privalages and so he/she closed the browser window and thought he/she could try starting all over and got stuck so I had to get he/she to uninstall MySQL and phpMyAdmin and start all over and bingo , Success. Later! :D
I think that was the reason! |

Yup
Sorted
The only issue I had was the phpbb sending out a URL that was not able to confirm that the user was activating the account but that was a problem in how phpbb sent the url, this was corrected in the Domain setting of the board.
All I have to do is change the look if the site, any pointers on how I edit the pages? I tried the css styleshee thing but that made no difference to the site.
anyway, im off to play with my forum board :P |

Their is a few options you can try , go to phpBB.com and you will find emoticons , new themes and a ton of templates to spice up your Website , their is a whole lot of goodies on that site , don't even try to create a smily pack , I tried my self and failed. 8) |
