How can I add the requirement for a username and password to my site (hosted on abyss)? |

Please take a look at the Documentation on this. You need to first add Users
from the Users area, than you must set a Access Controle rule. |

But how would I be able to just ask for a username and password? I don't want to set up specific users. |

With the Access Controle, but you first need to have some user accounts before
you can even use the feature. |

Are you saying you want to use just one username for anyone that accesses your site?
If so then just open the console & click on Configure.
Then select Users and Groups & add a group & call it Friends or what ever you want.
The add the user account you want & the password.
After you add the user click the pencil beside the Group you created & check the user to add it to that Group.
Ok that until you get back to the main console & this time select the Access Control
Click add & then browse to the folder you want to require the username/password
In Realm Enter a heading you want on the username window.
I set order to Deny/Allow & then select the group you just created for Allow for.
Click Ok & then Restart
Now try to access your site.
Is this what you were looking for?

Is it possible to do as you said but put a time limit on the access? In other words after say, 24 hours that user/pass expires?

Abyss itself has no such function. You need to write one yourself using some script language (like PHP, Perl etc). |
