				| ASP = Active Server Page (I believe it stands for other things too)... It is an active language which provides extra functionality that HTML cannot provide... Like Javascript it adds a little pizzaz but its true strength lies in its ability to make your entire site actively dynamic like accept information into a database for future sessions, etc... 
 Cookies only last as long as the persons browser doesn't get cleaned out... Javascript might be able to hold information for a bit but not for the long run... ASP like many others makes it easier to have dynamically database dependent applications function like real applications whereas HTML is more a standalone presentation...
 
 I might be all wrong but thats my best somewhat interpretation of it... I might be completely wrong :(
