Can't view my website. Odd issue

I am new to Abyss (and this forum) and I'm having some trouble viewing my site.

My browser atempts to connect to the site, but just sits there untill it times out as if there is no server present.

I have enabled remote administration for my home IP (server is at my office to make better use of my T1 line) and I am able to login to the consol @ Mysite.com:9999, but i am not able to view my site @ mysite.com.

I am having the same problem described in this thread:

I am able to view my site from the internal network, but not from an external IP. My firewall has ports 80, and 21 open(also running a FTP server that works perfectly) and my router has port forwarding eneabled as well.
I have also tried (and currently have enabled) DMZ, but still no viewable site.

I dont understand why i can log into the consol but I am not able to view the page, or atleast get a 404 error.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

(I'm sure there are typos in this post, but please excuse me, it's late and I've had a long day. And sorry for the long post. I tend to explain things in detail to prevent miscommunication or misdiagnosis.)

Have you tried testing your site on a port other than 80?
If your site works on another port number, then your ISP is probably blocking 80.

Ok, it seems as if that is the problem. However i am going to have to call verizon and have them fix that. I have a T1 line, they should not be blocking my ports.

In the mean time, Is there a way to have my domain use a differant port.
(i.e when I visit Mysite.com, it would use port 1111 instead of 80 without needing to do Mysite.com:1111)

You can use a domain name to access your site at the office. You'd have to login to your control panel for your domain (whoever you registered the domain with). Then check where they let you specify your IP address for their DNS servers. Their DNS server stores your IP address to point your domain to your server. See if they allow you to change the port. It may not be possible.

In this stage of your testing (until Verizon unblocks port 80), I wouldn't use a domain name. For another port, just try your IP address, like http://24.145.130.71:80. Change 80 with the new port number.

To use a new port,
1. Set up Abyss to use port 1111.
2. Set up your router to forward port 1111 to the internal server IP.
3. From another computer, access your external IP address with :1111 tagged on the end.

Another idea: You might want to sign up for a no-ip.com account. You site would be http://whatever.no-ip.com, but could redirect to http://yourdomain.com:1111.

I have an account at DNSPark.com (paid version, $10 a year is worth it). I'm not to familiar with DNS servers (witch is why i paid someone else ;) ), so i will have to contact DNS Park to see if they can have change the port.

Are DNS servers able to do this?

It looks as though this is just a redirection, though. In other words, you can type in http://mysite.com and the browser will be redirected to http://mysite.com:1111.

BTW, I use no-ip.com for my domain http://calvarybucyrus.org. I wanted to access the server on my home computer, so I set up a Port 80 Redirection. I would type in the URL, and an Apache Web Server would redirect me to my http://mysite:1100 (no, a DNS server cannot specify different ports).

STEALTH REDIRECTION
Another option you may want to look into is URL masking or cloaking. This makes an HTML frame that is located at http://yoursite.com, but the frame (who's URL is hidden) can be http://yoursite:1111.
This feature is called "stealth redirection" at http://www.dnspark.com/services/webGuiding.php.

Your best bet is definitely to ask your ISP to unblock port 80. What a headache they've created!

It might be a good idea to put a link to this thread in the thread below for anyone else that might run into this issue. From what i've read, alot of ISP's are blocking port 80 due to the "code red" virus (atleast thats what they say), witch is BS because that is probably the single most used port in the entire port range and you should be told in advance about the restriction.
