before i start, im using linux
the following posts seem relevent, but nothing works :(

ive just upgraded abyss 2.3.0.4 from the last release, which was working, and i cannot get directory listing to work.
the previous version was installed under my username, and all of the files/folders have their permissions set to the same username. and it worked. abyss would display the contents of the folder if there was no index file.
with the upgrade, i installed abyss as the root user set the permissions to my username changed the owner of abyss to root and set its setuid bit (ref) started it as a normal user (my username) and it worked on port 80 (my goal!)
the problem is when ever i go to a folder with no index file i get a 403
abyss has got root permission, the user it runs under is the same one that created the folder (me!)
i have turned on directory listing, even using a template (the one included in the faq) but nothing works.
below is the output from executing "ls -al"

What is the Operating system user in Console > Server Conf. > Parameters?
403 could be caused by the "directory listing" options (if it is denied to some directories or if it is disabled). So please check them too. _________________ Support Team

i was just about to reply when i looked though the directory listing options, and clicked on scope
i changed the order from Allow/Deny to Deny/Allow and it is now working
I don't understand it, because i am using the same config file from the previous version, and it was working
oh well, wonders will never cease!
it was a case of pebkac ;)
thanks for your time aprelium _________________ Anthony R
