I was working with The Inquisitor a little while ago, and my computer managed to stump him, so I'm posting this up here at his suggestion.

First off, I have no router.

With that out of the way, I'm having the same problem that every noob to Abyss is having - my website is inaccessible by attempting to visit my IP. I've only been able to access it twice with my IP. Other than that, the only way I can access it is through localhost.

Things I Do Know:
-I have no firewall software on my computer other than Windows Firewall.
-After the firewall that I did have was removed, I used netsh to remove any rules that it might have put into my winsocks.
-Regardless of what port I use (meaning that I set Abyss to use it, as well as open the port in Windows Firewall), attempts to access my site time out.
-I can access my site with localhost.
-My modem supports loopback - I've seen my site; but only twice. (And even if it didn't, there are proxy pages that I've used, eg. proxify.com)
-I've used ports 80, 8000, 8080, 6042, 60042, 20001, and other random ports, with no better luck.
-My modem has no console and does not have a built-in firewall.
-I am not behind a proxy. (Checked on abyssunderground.co.uk.)
-I've attempted running from a clean .conf file (my friends and I were mucking around in the configuration trying to make it work) and again, no dice.
-Telus (my ISP) is not blocking port 80. (Again, I've seen my site.)
-I've dyndns'ed my site so that if my IP works, http://rain.is-a-geek.com will work, as well.

Things I Don't Know:
-Whether there is another piece of software which might be interfering. (I've looked in the list of processes and haven't been able to identify anything which might be blocking incoming TCP requests.)
-A lot more.

=====
ipconfig /all

windows ip config
hostname: Shunaria
primary dns suffix: *blank*
node type: unknown
ip routing enabled: no
wins proxy enabled: no
dns suffix search list: -appropriate for my isp-

connection-specific dns suffix: same as dns suffix search list
description: -name of ethernet card here-
physical address: -appropriate for me to use my internet :P-
dhcp enabled: yes
autoconfiguration: yes
ip address: 207.216.xx.xx
subnet mask: 255.255.248.0
default gateway: 207.216.xx.xx
dhcp server: 64.114.xx.xx
dns servers:
154.11.xx.xx
154.11.xx.xx
64.114.xx.xx
64.114.xx.xx

and then the lease info.

help would be appreciated, even if it doesn't lead anywhere.
if anyone needs any more info, just lemme know.

EDIT:
OS: WinXP Home SP2 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 : Service Pack 2)
Modem Model: D-Link DSL 300G (Generation II)
Connected straight to the back of my computer via my ethernet card.

EDITx2:
Updated title post subject.

Nice post... Should be held up of an example as "How to make a first post" - apart from the topic title ;)

A couple of things you've left out - your modem model and how it is connected to your PC (ethernet or usb?), and confirm your OS & service pack level...

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10283 may also be relevant here, but not for the random ports you used.

Bizarrely enough, Telus didn't block my site the twice I managed to see it - they were both on port 80.

What the crap is going on here?

My IP is static.

Out of pure interest in the Interest of my Friend Nathan, Does anybody have a clue if Optusnet Australia block Port 80?

I dont like SP2, it used to cause too many problems for me have you tried uninstalling SP2 or for that matter a Second Installation of Windows beside your Original or a complete new one altogether?

Whoa, I'm not that interested in setting up a webserver. If my ISP is being a tard, then eventually I'll switch to a new one. As it is, I have a friend who is far more experienced in webhosting who has offered to host me, so I'm good.

But yeah, thanks anyways. :3 And thanks, Inquisitor, for your help. :)

I would probably be the last person to come to for Networking issues if all
else failed. I can easily detect what the problem is and fix it. 99.9% of the
times I fix the problem. Just add me to your MSN Messenger.

Note: I won't be logged on MSN Messenger on Jan 11, 2006.

Sincerely, TRUSTpunk
