Hello all,
Last night, a friend of mine downloaded a 600 Mb file from my abyss server and when he woke up in the morning, the error timed out was showing.
Is there a time out option in abyss that could be set differently ?
Thanks for your time ! |

It could have been that your connection dropped during the night. There is no option in Abyss for a file transfer timeout. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

olivierp,
There is a parameter in Abyss Web Server that may affect your visitors if they are on very slow connections. It is Timeout in Console > Server Configuration > Parameters. By default the server will wait up to 30 seconds for an inactive connection before delcaring it dead and closing it, which means that if your visitor browser does not acknowledge the data chunk sent to it during 30 seconds, the server will abort the connection.
Other situations can also cause problems for long downloads: some ISPs for example will abort TCP/IP connections that last a long time. There could be also a transient network congestion (at the visitor or the server side) that resulted in the loss of the connection.
So to make a long post short, it is recommended that you use a "smart" download manager (such as GetRight or FlashGet) for large downloads. It will detect download problems and retry connecting to the server to resume the download activity automatically. _________________ Support Team

Just wondering why this question is in "ASP Issues"??
It is better suited to "General Questions" or "Off Topic Discussions"!
Just a suggestion... _________________ Please SEARCH the forums BEFORE asking questions! |
