Hi everyone:
As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I just downloaded the Abyss Web Server X1 (?) version for the ability to serve my podcasts, video blogs, and anything else that can't easily be uploaded to a web host and I love the interface very much. MUCHO impressed. :D
But now here's the problem....
Without something to mask my IP address, it is [u]exposed for the whole world to see when one does a mouseover over a file I have linked on one of my blogs.
Does anyone here know of a program that will work with (and talk) to the Abyss Server? I got an account from No-IP.com but about all that thing seems to is....sit there. (My URL there is http://jeeperone.bounceme.net/ if anybody cares to visit as there's nothing but a placeholder page there).
I don't care if I have to get a subdomain. All I care about is A). IT'S 100% FREE FOREVER!!! and B). My IP address is kept hidden from the URL (or at the very least is hashed).
Any ideas as to where I might go or what I might try?
Apologies in advance if this has been asked a zillion times before or is in the wrong place (I know some places online are rather brutal when it comes to these sorts of things).
Anyhow....Cheers for now everyone :)

Your IP is not hidden.

To elaborate on the above, all a domain name does is provide something easier to remember than an IP address to access a particular service. All domain names are resolved to IP addresses before traffic is sent out - using an IP for your site is no less secure than using a domain name, and using a domain name is certainly no more secure than using your IP. Even if you used a webhop service to redirect to your site, as soon as things are being loaded directly from your site, it is trivial to find your IP. _________________

Hi everyone:
So I suppose I should spend more time configuring my Abyss Web Server (which is amazingly easy to figure out BTW) than messing with webhop and redirection services like No-IP (and their clients), eh?
Cheers for now :) |
