Hi,
I can access the webserver fine from my own home network but when trying to access outside of my home network it comes up with Quote: | Gateway Timeout
The following error occurred:
Server unreachable
-------------------------------------
Please contact the administrator. |
I can access it fine through the web, not just by doing a 127.0.0.1 to access it. I am using a no-ip.org port 80 redirect and i have no-ip DUC running on my server. If I type in the no-ip address from home it loads ok, but when I try from any where other than at home it comes up with the gateway timeout error. It is not a PHP or CGI page I am trying to load, just a simple .html page. Any idea's what might be causing this? |

I'll guess wherever you accessed it was behind a gateway (Most probably a proxy server.), and that the connection was refused or whatever. Think of it as a "Your connection was refused" or the like. _________________

Are you accessing it from your own computer or a computer from within the same network as the server?
It could just be that your router (Which is a gateway, nonetheness.) can't access your site because it refuses loopback. (Inable or disabled most likely.)
Whats the URL, I'll try if you like. _________________

I CAN access it from any computer on my network, just not the PC i am trying on outside of my network. I don't think its my works gateway as normally if a site is prohibited (Damn them ',..,') it comes up with some thing about accessing prohibited sites, but with my site it just comes up with the gateway error |

Its the same concept, you're site isn't visible to outside.
Its just that your works gateway(s) stop your browser from showing that the connection failed cause from the browsers point of view it didn't, cause it connected to a gateway, however the end gateway couldn't connect, but it couldn't send that to the browser in the normal fassion, so you get 5xx errors. _________________

Firstly, loopback addresses are different for each computer see as though there used with in your computer not your network so for exapmle to access another computer on your network it should be like 192.168.1.*** not 127.0.0.1 (localhost = loopback address = 127.0.0.1)
Secondly, is port forwarding on ur router/modem enabled?
Is DMZ Enabled on ur router/modem? |

My ADSL modem is actually a USB modem, not a router. I am accessing from my home network, through the internet IP address of the PC as I am running NO-IP DUC and am connecting to the IP that NO-IP states. My firewall has been set to enable or ports and full internet access for both no-ip duc and abyss web server. I have tried conneccting manually to the website with my IP address which i have confirmed as I am also running an FTP server but it still comes up with the gateway error. The IP address I am using to access from work is EXACTLY the same one i am typing in to access it from my home network. |

LOLs theres your problem from what you said your using 192.168.1.*** from outside your network to access your website.
you need your wan ip to access it from outside and inside your subnet (usally 255.255.255.0) 192.168.1.***.
Router = modem = dsl modem = usb modem and so on although some of these dont have a dsl modem built in likes your for exmaple mine does =). |

I'm not using a 191.xxx to access it, I am using my IP address that it would tell u if you went to a website or something that logs your IP. That is what No-ip DUC collects aswell. It's the WAN IP. It changes every time I reconnect my net connection to my ISP as I have dynamic IP which is why I am using No-ip to redirect! |

Could you tell us what your site address is? It seems that your firewall or port forwarding is wrong somewhere, then. _________________

The test site is http://abysstest.no-ip.org
Just let me know when you want to test it so I can make sure the page is live as I have turned off the site so I can use my bandwidth for other purposes untill it is working ok! My time now is 11:00am so you could work it out from there I'll make sure its online! Cheers. |

It won't be in the next 3 or so days though, my server HD has just died so I'm currently in the process of recovering the data before I replace it. At least its an excuse to replace my 80g IDE to a 240g SATA! |
