I need my site testing, run all links and feedback comments to help me to improve it. I have received complaints about bandwidth and file size. So, I have added options to choose large or small file transfers, in an effort to remedy slow modem access. But I cannot test my web connection speed in a realistic manor myself, I need outsiders to test it for me:) Push it, use links to all connected pages, download whatever you fancy. . . Enter findings into guestbook and let's help each other to produce better sites. . . Yes?
Go to http://mitchell-uk.sytes.net and don't bother to read the text, just load it and see how long it takes, then report briefly if you spot any mistakes. I hope that being the weekend will be the best period. I will leave my server on continuously and watch your access. . Come on, you know it's the only way:)
Change of subject, not exactly a related question but. . . .
Can anybody explain why I see lots of WWW.flithy.CENSORED.sites littering our Abyss webserver forum???? Surely these profit making concerns are using our facilities to promote their sites which in many cases are not home served at all!! I notice many have joined recently, after I did! Or, am I barking up the wrong tree? If I am, I will stand corrected and appologise to those concerned. (I wont really, I just said that to be polite) I get sick of binning the emails from the same leaches:( Hoped I would escape the spam by serving my own site, but sadly they are here as well and increasing daily. _________________ Visit me, I'm alone here. I live in Sweden, I have a 24 mbit/s connection and your site took a little bit over 30 sec to load... And that's if I'm using the "modem" site. |

I'm in the UK. Your site was transfered to me at 30kb/s, and it took 7mins, and the total downloaded was 10mb's. I chose broadband fast. _________________ Olly |

I live in the UK also, and it downloaded in reasonable time, about 1-3 minutes.
A little too many images I think =/
Try making them jpegs and of a lesser quality to save load time. _________________

Thank you all for participating and offering suggestions. I have now made changes based on your feedback. I have put a page menu up front so people can see I have 4 pages to view and then go directly to the page they want. The reason: very few if any visits were made to my pages of interest. Most if not all visits were to my home page only, a few had a look (listen) to my music page and a few checked my server help files. If you care to check my site again some time, you will spot the other pages to view without the need to search for the links on the home page. This was a mistake on my part, I learn from my mistakes:)
Visitors suggested that I should reduce the size and or number of photos displayed. . . . I have reduced the sizes of all photos to minimal for high quality display, further reduction would kill the point of showing the photos in the first place. But few are larger than 200kb. I avoid using multiple display GIF banners. . . Now they can take ages to download. And SW/RM type movies are out of the question, unless from a choice to view menu?
The main cause for long duration download is/was the huge tunes in mp3/wma format that I used on all pages. To combat this issue I have implicated tiny MID tunes on all pages for modem sufferers (sorry, users):) Again, I don't want a dumb/silent site. I aim for sound, movement and an alive website. First visits will take a while to download, but the next visit will only take seconds to read your own cache!!
I deliberatelly do not make my own pages available off line. But if I like a site I view, I always select to save offline mode. Hence I can view most sites I like in seconds rather than minutes.
I also noticed that although most visitors use Windows XP or 2000 OS. But also more than 50% of you use Firefox browser not Int-Explorer-6. I would welcome an explanation please?
FEEDBACK- - - We all need it! Nobody uses my guestbook. . .WHY? Kindly tell me what's the problem, so I can fix it and get some feedback from visitors. Thanks to all

200kb Images!? Geezum .. I usually get good images just above 20k.
For your MP3/Wav Files you could try to Downgrade the quality .. So lets say one is 128kb/s, you could change it and make it 64kb/s instead.
And about firefox .. i've used it before at friends houses and in my view its more simple to use, and one thing i like about it is it keeps all Firefox windows you have open in tabs all in one Window. If you really wanna see why everyone uses it i would suggest downloading it yourself and trying it. |
