|
|
Hi-
I started out with dialup, went to cable and then DSL. I never had such a problem with a webserver until i got this router. My ISP says that when i use localhost it has nothing to do with a router. I am lost.
I cant even get the abyss 1.0 console to show. It wont launch.
127.0.0.1:9999 should do it i thought or just click console show.
I also cant get apache to run as a service. It says it is starting and then stops. I like abyss for php but want to use apache for TCL Rivet.
I tried things like shutting off my router, disable my spam killer and firewall (when the router is shut off). I shut mysql service down.
I guess a course of action is for me to somehow get that console to work.
I did a windows command that showed me which ports were being used. It is not a listening problem so it probably isnt 2 ports conflicting.
All i want to do is test my php and rivet files local. I cant believe it is giving me this many problems. I know better than to try and run my own webserver for the public. i use ipowerweb.
when i put in http://localhost/ it shows the index page of apache in htdocs. now i know i never set that directory in abyss. abyss is running when that happens.
i am headed to bed. i was up all night trying to get this to work.
thanks for any help,
jim |

try http://localhost:9999 does that work? And are you sure that thats the port the console attached itself to?
When you type in http://localhost your getting the apahce htdocs it sounds like Apache is running. Apache installs a server moniter and puts a shortcut into the start menu. Run it and see if it says Apache is running.
Maybe your hosts files got screwed up somehow =\. _________________

hi-
i deleted apache so i could concentrate on abyss. i still cant get to the console.
Abyss Web Server X1 (v 1.2.3.0)
Copyright © Aprelium Technologies - 2001-2004
Web server local URL: http://127.0.0.1/
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999/
i put in a support ticket to webroot spysweeper. it says that my host file contains no entries. i thought an entry like 127.0.0.1 localhost
should be in there at least.
right now if i type in http://127.0.0.1/ while abyss is running i get waiting for localhost 127.0.0.1... message
it is very frustrating. i tested and developed my website Http://3rdshiftcoder.com/basicframe.html using localhost and never had this much trouble. i wonder what got screwed up along the way :-(
thanks,
jim |

Yeah your right, your host file should have 127.0.0.1 localhost. From this point I think Aprelium would be able to help you more. support@aprelium.com =\. _________________

3rdshiftcoder,
Is your browser using a proxy for local addresses? Try changing its configuration so that it do not use a proxy for localhost and/or 127.0.0.1 ?
Try installing another browser (Opera or FireFox) and do the tests with this new one. Can you see the console now? _________________ Support Team

Hi Aprelium-
no the browser is not using a proxy. it has the radio button checked that says direct connection to the internet (firefox).
at this point i guess it is time to give up and bring it in to the local repair shop. it might just stay broken for awhile. i dont absolutely need it fixed right away. i can still email and browse the internet.
thanks everyone for helping,

hi-
i am a bit on the paranoid side.
did one of you break into my house and fix this for me?
anyways...thanks very much for all of your help.
abyss was up and running tonight and i could get into the
control panel. i even fired up apache and had php
and rivet files i tested running right on that server as well.
it is nice to come home and fire up the pc and find things
working after they have been broken. it is kind of like
finding money you had lost a year ago in your spare jacket.
thanks again,

You turn your computer off at night and back on when you get up.
Turning a computer on and off all the time is hard on your machine, hit it with a baseball bat if you want to break it. LOL.
No im serious turning a computer on and off is very hard on them and weres them out faster, the power surge when you turn them on can do a lot of damage.
Leave it on and use power management, your computer and its hardware will thank you for it. |

No... Im thinking he is right, it does wear the PC out but only doing it several times a day, like more than 5 or 6. Doing it once a day on in the morning off at night will do no harm. My server hasnt been off since it was set up so there is no wear and tear. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Yea... He's right, this just really isn't the right place.
Also, I've turned mine off a few times since I set it up, just because I've moved it or crashed it :D |

This is the right place because it lead on from what he said.
He said:
Quote: | it is nice to come home and fire up the pc and find things
working after they have been broken. |
and the reply to this was:

Yea, now I see your point.
But this topic is from April of this year... Last time I checked, it was August
*Me looks at calendar and sees it is 40 years from when I had thought and notices that Pentium 21's are now available* |

You might have to edit the hosts file in C:\system32\drivers\etc
As a thought?!?!? |
