|

Help please,
What do I need to do to make abyss server give a user agent a 301 moved permanent instead of a 302 temporaily moved.
Unfortunately, googlebot and msnbot cannot handle these directives properly.
For instance, on abyss server a request such as http://mysite.net/mysite2 will give a 302 header pointing to ./mysite2/
It should really give a 301 permanent because clearly the absence of a trailing slash in links pointing to a site that uses abyss servers is making search engines think the site has temporarily moved and absolute links are resulting in 200 GET. This does cause pagerank and all sorts of problems in google and msn.
Many thanks in advance.

bugner,
Thank you for pointing out this potential problem. In the next update of the server, it will send 301 code instead of 302 when doing such redirections. _________________ Support Team

With this fix on abyss webserver I think it can only be a plus for an already great server.
The 302 status code is a good code and specific for its purpose. Unfortunately it is now the self inflicted Achilles Heal of googlebot.
