| Take a good look at Tom's Mess in both IE and FF/Opera. IE is so very faithful to me - always. Whys does the background not show in the header region in FF or Opera? |

Because Opera and FF are stricter than IE.
Actually your page on Opera generates several errors: open it in Opera then select Tools > Advanced > Error Console to see all the complaints Opera has about your CSS declarations.
