Newbie comes... Please help!
I'm learning to develop a site, via which I want to query an Access database. I use WinXP and Frontpage, and I've installed the ASP support from SeliSoft on my local server. But when I upload the pages, I got a message from FP, saying that my local serve doesn't support ASP. So, anybody can tell me what I made wrong? Or what I missed?
Thanks in advance! |

Don't use FP to upload the files. Just copy them from your work directory to your htdocs/ directory using drag and drop. That's easier. _________________ Support Team

Thanks for the message. I've tried, but there's an error like following:
[color=darkblue]Database Results Error
The database connection named 'database1' is undefined.
This problem can occur if:
* the connection has been removed from the web
* the file 'global.asa' is missing or contains errors
* the root folder does not have Scripting permissions enabled
* the web is not marked as an Application Root
The file global.asa is loaded. The connection I've also created, but OK, in FP (that's what I've learned so far). The setup of AHtml, I assume, is the scripting permission. And the 4th, I don't know what it wants to say...
Thanks! |

THe 4th should be OK also. But these are few information to figure the real cause of the problem. If you can give us more details, it would help. _________________ Support Team

I've been having somewhat the same problem as newbie. I have been trying to create two webpages with frontpage, on the same site, that will allow me to, on one, enter data into a form, and submit it, have that data entered into an Access Database on my computer, then use the other page to retrieve that database and display it as a spreadsheet. However my data is not saving to the database in the first place, and my results page is giving me an error like Newbies in yellow. Im trying to follow FrontPages instructions, but they're reading like the warantee for a dialysis machine. Something isn't translating but my database connections are good when I check. Selisoft is set up, the asp connections are in place from within the console. Should I keep fiddling or is it time to try another database program? Is this a frontpage thing or an abyss thing? 8O
By the way, my form page is at
http://67.86.115.251:1000/P2P_Tutors/Tutor%20Submission%20Page.asp
And my Database is at
http://67.86.115.251:1000/P2P_Tutors/database123.asp
Im Using WinXP Home Edition and FrontPage 2000 with Access 2000
If all fails, ill just nerf the whole idea and work with a text file. |

The problem is not in Abyss Web Server. Abyss Web Server has nothing to do with the database. It is the ASP interpreter that handles that and this is probably from where the problem comes.
ActiveHTML have some limitations (a few) but we aren't specialists of ASP to understand well if these are responsible about that misbehaviour.
Please consider also that FP is made to work with Microsoft products "only", so there may be some interoperability problems when it comes to interacting with 3rd parties products such ActiveHTML.
Our advice is the following, contact seliSoft's support. They can give more information than us. And if you don't need ASP absolutely, try using PHP... It is at least equivalent to ASP (if not better) and life is much more easy with it :D _________________ Support Team
