It sounds like you haven't made the correct 'index' file. Try naming your home page to index.htm or index.html and see if this makes a difference. If you would prefer to have the original name, you need to set that name as an index file in the abyss console:

Access the abyss console, configure, index files, add, type in the FULL filename, e.g. home.htm, click OK, restart the server and see the result.

Hope this helps.

I dont think that is the problem. I have had the website setup on a windows machine and it works ok. I would prefer to use linux if I can get the server to work.

No just a index.html and then the rest of the pages to make the whole site work.
When the site loads on a different computer on my network I get index of /.
If I click on the file index.html the site will load and i am able to navigate most of the site. My Gallery does not work.
If I use the version of apache2 that comes with Mandrake 10.1 I can see the apache page. When I change it to my web site I get a Forbiden page.
This is turning into a real headache.

danj,

As the other users have explained, this has to do with your Abyss Web Server configuration. Please send your abyss.conf file to support@aprelium.com and write us a line or two to remind us of the problem.

Send us also the output of the command:

Code:

pwd; ls -al

when executed in the directory where your web site is located.

I am redoing the server. Had problems with mandrake 10.1 so going back to 9.2. Does it matter if I install abyss as root or as a user??
Also my website is viewable by all, so i am alittle concerned with security.

check the case of the index file.
linux is case sensative, so index.html is not the same as INDEX.HTML.
to test this, on the window machine save a file in all caps, and then save it again in small letters, and it will ask if you want to overwrite the file.
on a linux computer it will see them as two different files.

I have found the problems. 1. As linux is case sensative I had to rename some files. (Thks roganty) 2. I had some photos in a gallery and it does not like the format or something. Now I just have to figure out how to use my photos
Thks for all the help. I'll be back I'm sure.
