hi,

I have abyss web server and are having a little problem. I am on a network with windows internet connection with crossover cables. So when I install the server, it automatically detects the 192.168.0.2 ip. The problem is only people on my network can see the 192.168.0.2 ip because it's a network address. my real ip is 24.215.123.101 and I would like to know how can I change it so that everyone can access my website, not only people on my network.

Thanks!

P.S. I DO NOT HAVE A ROUTER, IT IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO THE OTHER COMPUTER!

and this is the second computer (other one is connected to modem)

redtailblackshark,

If we understand what you've said: you have computer A connected to a modem. Computer B is connected to B with a LAN cable and Abyss is running on B.

What kind of internet connection sharing software are you using on A? Windows ICS or another product?

As a general rule, all you have to do is to configure the ICS software to forward connections for port 80 on A to port 80 on B so that Abyss can answer the requests.

I am using windows ICS. I do not know how to configure it or anything. I'm not that good at this kind of stuff, but need a server.

I don't know if I've mentioned, computer A is running windows 98se and computer B is running windows xp professional

This is different to the sticky, because I do not have a router to configure!

Download the ICS Configuration tool from http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/ics/icsconfiguration.htm

This is the easiest way to forward ports in ICS. You need to do basically what you would do for a router - set it up to forward port 80 on machine A to port 80 on machine B where the server is running. This is detailed further down on the same page.

Quote:

=== WEB SERVERS ===

Because a web server requires incoming connections you can only have one server on your network per port number. ie: only one machine on your network can listen to port 80. This one machine doesn't have to be the ICS server: simply set the ICSCFG "Target" to the private address of the machine running the web server program.

Remote machines will connect to the PUBLIC (exterior) IP address of the ICS server, but your own clients will have to connect to the PRIVATE (Interior) address of the machine running the web server. Your shared public IP address is the only internet address that is not accessable by your interior machines.
