I'd only add that you should not forget to remove yourself from the router dhcp table.
Some router like my linksys have some problem seeing the same computer name on DHCP list and as a static ip. THe result is that the computer wont be able to acess the internet before the DHCP table is flushed ( 10-30 min ?? )
You should do that step manually.
goto:
http://192.168.1.1
( if its not working use ipconfig to find what is your local gateway )
Under DHCP tab
Click on DHCP clients table
Select the checkbox near your computer name
Press the delete button.
Note that i'm not sure its needed. I am sure however it won't do any harm to your network as your computer dont need any DHCP now. And i'm sure things didn't work properly before i did this step on my network. For those wondering what is DHCP ... its the server that give you dynamic ip.
Hope this can help someone |

I never really had to worry about that , I just use the IP Address from the command prompt
in order to put the right IP , after doing this , you shouldn't have to worry about DHCP. |

that depends on the router you've got, for example my US Robotics one will not allow you to connect to the network, if it can't issue the IP address. But that's not a problem as my router uses static IP address _________________ Olly |
