the new beta allows bandwidth throttling, on the server overall, and individual IP address.

Hi squashua--
You can find the thread on this forum that relates to the beta2 here:

It should keep your current configuration if, when prompted, you indicate that you want to keep your current configuration. When I last was using the standard version, the abyss.conf was written in plain text. With the beta, it is written in xml. So you will notice that difference.
I would suggest (always) to make and keep a backup of your current site before making any major changes. That way you can re-install your old site if anything goes wrong. I have found the upgrade to beta to be very seemless.
