|
|
Update: November 14, 2007
pkSML, is the new owner for the PBA Project! ;-)
Now has 400+ websites!
The Powered By Abyss project has gone through a major update. The links that you see at the buttom of the page used to be added manually, but now thanks to my new PHP skills, that is no longer needed. I've been reading Larry Ullman's, "PHP and MySQL" book, and it's amazing what type of stuff you learn from it. I just mastered the skill of pagination! (Google: pagination)
P.S. I also added some new websites to the database, and a new column to show when a website was added. Did a mention a new layout?

This is awesome man. I've already submitted my site and more to come... Its cool to see how many sites are really hosted using Abyss server. It will show just how much this server is being used and help spread the word even faster. Nice work man. _________________ -NoName

Note: Even though it says Apache vs. Abyss , Abyss is always the winner
so I put the link name as something funny just to let Apache people feel
good about them selves when they read the actual stuff I write about it.

Im doing a contest at the Abyss Underground website. I gurantee you that if
you send me 5 Powered By Abyss websites , you will get a FREE book of your
choosing but the only way to get one is to send me at least 5 PBA sites.
Get A PHP Book (Contest)

Note: This is a Contest to help the PBA site list grow even bigger and so im
giving away a Free e-book that could cost you $20 or more just for helping.

what about people who don`t want their sites to be listed?
Are asking them if it is ok to list their site...?
Personaly i would mind if my site is listed like that. What if there is a major security leak in the server. All people have to do is then look up your list, and check every server one by one.
That is my main concern to be listed like that

The list does not provide version numbers of Abyss Web Server for the purpose
of security , this is just like a search engine , people need to know that their are
more than a few Powered By Abyss websites out there. Im going to prove it.
If Google can list people , I have the right to list them. This is perfectly legal
what im doing and you can even ask Aprelium. This is a good way of getting
more people to use this software , I will not stop collecting these sites.

I understand. I will create a section very soon that will allow them to be removed
if they don't want to be listed , if a site that I found says that its a personal site
for family and friends , I first ask permission from the user before adding it.
Note: If I can't find an e-mail to contact the person than I add it any way and I
will let the person decide if they want to be listed. I respect people's privacy. :-)

You have to e-mail me the websites then I will check them manually to see if
they really are Powered By Abyss and if they are , I than send you your book.

Instead, have a small note at the bottom of the list saying something like,
"NOTE- If you do NOT want your site proudly listed on this page, contact me at blah, blah..."
That way it would take reasonable effort from the site owner to request a site to be dropped.
Also, it would discourage malicious users from deleting sites that don't belong to them. |

Dont get me wrong please. I like the idea what you are doing.
I am only [a bit] concerned about security risks....thats all.
Myself i also purchased this server, and must say i really like it. It is easy to work [play] with.
I have a few dedicated servers with 72 websites running on them. Some mine with free services, and some i host.
Not that this is something special...no. It is just a hobby of mine.
At one time 2 of my servers were hacked at the same time.
The *hackers* uploaded a few games and others were downloading them again. Per server i have a max of 1024 GB of bandwith per month, and in just a few hours my bandwith was maxed out. Lucy for me i noticed it by checking a real time bandwith monitor.
At that time i took the security much more serious then i did before. Besides that this *joke* cost me a lot of money.
And this all because there was a new exploit

Major Update!
From now on, you should no longer find an Anti-Abyss website inside the
database. To inforce this gurantee, if you find one website using another
web server besides Abyss, I will send you a PHP Movie pack!
This new update also maintains offline websites. Example: If a website is
offline for more than 2 weeks in a row, it will be removed. Also added is a
Personal/Professional Abyss version detection system.
P.S. A new website design has been added. Enjoy!
Note: The PHP Movie Pack, contains a full step by step guide to learning
the PHP scripting language. You can also earn this Movie pack by sending
me a minimum of five Powered By Abyss websites!
The movie pack includes one free PHP e-book of your choice. :-)

Another important update!
Since I really don't like Anti-Abyss websites too much, I'm going to be creating
a Cronjob using Windows Task Scheduler to do the work for me. This new thing
will be completely automated and will automaticly upload the new list if any of
the websites become bad sites. Here's the features it will include.
01. Automatic FTP Upload of database file.
02. Deletes Anti-Abyss websites instantly!
03. Keeps track of offline websites.
I should have this thing running very soon.
Good Bye Anti-Abyss servers. :-)

The Powered by Abyss project is back online!
After being offline for more than a month, I finally got two OS's installed so that
I don't have to deal with a buggy server. Abyss currently doesn't support The Intel
version of Mac OS X very well because it was built for PowerPC based processors.
Aprelium will be making a Intel version in the near future.
The emulator that allowed me to run Abyss on Mac OS X on my Mac Mini, didn't
really like PHP too much, so I installed Windows XP Media Center on a Virtual OS
environment using Parallels Desktop.
The Mac OS X server will be back in the near future. :-)

Yes, they are. One of the things I love about my ISP is that we get static IPA's and explicit permission to run servers, at no extra charge compared to most other aDSL ISP's in this town. _________________ Red Lion

Update: October 11, 2006
I fixed a bug with the website that causes you to be redirected to a URL like
"http://pba.trustabyss.com/page.php?url=" instead of the correct "Check it"
server status link: "http://pba.trustabyss.com/?url="
The bug is now fixed and the website should redirect properly. Thanks to
AbyssUnderground for pointing this problem out.

I have checked all links on the two PBA lists and there is a devastating number that have stopped their server again. The lists are good for identifying new sites started bus as a list of exisiting Abyss Web Serbers they fail.
On my site http://www.ebookmark.dk/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=viewlink&cid=4
you wil find the currently active sites. The PHP-Nuke system will check links continously to weed out stopped servers.
I hope it will be helpful to the Abyss community as it took a very long time to check and enter all links back to 2003. :!: _________________ Reformers are doomed to fail - http://83.92.35.50 |

Hello everyone,
I've just completed a powerful function for this project. This new function will
search the source code for frame tags and capture a URL from it untill it has
a proper URL leading to an Abyss powered server.
Basicly, it will allow cloaked website addresses after it is implemented.
I will let you know when it's added to the PBA project.

New Feature Added!
Users can now submit cloaked website addresses. I've implemented a powerful
new feature that checks the site's source for frame tags and determine the type
of server it is running from there. Send in your cloaked websites!
Hopefully this new addition will help the database grow more. |

I have BIG plans for this project!
As a learning tool, I'm going to create a new website for the Powered By Abyss site. This new site will allow users to log in and change their preferences, such as editing a URL/Email address. Users will be able to add as many sites as they wish as long as they're Powered by Abyss. I'm doing this because of the book I'm reading requires me to have the skills. ;-)
P.S. You might even be able set a Title for your Powered By Abyss site! (Development starts after I'm done reading this book, and soon after, FileLimit)
Kind regards, Josh |

Not a bad result. First of all, is it possible to get an overview other than just sorted on number of submission?
I took a look at some of the new found sites. Some of them are not working properly, or do not respond at all.
Examples:
http://212.3.145.101/ (error)
http://74.65.180.157/ (error)
http://71.74.80.9/ (script-error)
etc. |

I add URLs to the list, not just websites. If it's running Abyss, it's listed. The Servers are probably offline when you checked. They were working earlier. |

Indeed, now they are again. Remains my first question. |
