i think my abyss is having trouble generating a directory listing (the list that comes up when you have no index.html or index.htm). each time i enter a directory, it only gives me the first few entries, and then it "loads" forever. *edit: i made sure i checked "automatic directory listing" in the config.
this doesn't happen when i view my site locally by going to http://127.0.0.1:8080 (yes it uses 8080), but happens even for other comps in my LAN when they go to http://192.168.1.100:8080.
i've tried:
- using other ports
- reinstalling abyss
- getting a new router
also:
- all comps use xp
- the server has sp2
- xp firewall is off
i don't have much web programming skills, just some html. i use this feature a lot, so i really want to fix it. i appreciate any inputs :) |

The hanging sounds like the CPU is being used by another process. Bring up the task manger at performance and dont do anything for a few seconds and post the CPU usage for a dew seconds. It should be low/none. _________________

if you're talking about the server, the cpu usage is hanging around 8% to 10%.
the problem happens to any other comp that's trying to access the server. i don't know of any processes running on the server that's causing this... do you think there are any potential processes that's causing this? |

Please try the latest beta release (in the 2.0 Beta section in this forum.) Do you experience the same problem with it?
Out of curiosity, what is the browser people use to see your site? Have you tried another (Opera, Firefox)?
What is the real path of the directory people are browsing? |

beta 2.0 worked!! :D thx for the solution
most of others just use IE 5, IE 6, and firefox 1.0. my laptop is running linux (just for fun) and using konqueror 3.2.1. all of them experienced the same problem. and now the beta 2.0 solved it all.
sorry what do you mean by the real path of the directory? |

Real path = the actual path to the htdocs folder on your machine - e.g C:\program files\Abyss\htdocs |

I had the exact same problem. Tried everything before finally installing beta 2.0. That did the trick... |
