help needed with FreeBSD/Abyss

i have just installed freebsd 5.2.1 on to an apricot ls pro (Apricot LS Pro)
the only other linux os i hve ever installed has been red hat, and the install is similar(ish) to windows (choose own options, install progress, etc)
can anyone give tips on how to install the gui, and also what installation configurations should i use for running abyss.

can abyss be run, and configured, without a gui/desktop?

help would be very much appreciated

Edit: The times that i have used red hat, i did nothing serious with it, only played games
