Just not to anger anyone straight from the beginning, I read the sticky at the top and many of the questions already in this forum and couldn't find my answer directly. I just installed abyss and both of the http://127.0.0.1/ and http://127.0.0.1:9999/ do not find anything, however the http://localhost/ says that abyss is working. I searched the troubleshooting and it told me that it was a proxy problem, however I do not have any proxies currently setup on my browser. I am on my college network and I've had abyss running before, I'm pretty sure i've had it working with the http://127.0.0.1/ here as well and not just at my house.

I'm sure this is a simple question and i looked for an answer but decided that answering questions was one of the main points of the forum so i'm taking advantage of it :) Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Look in your "hosts" file and see if you have 127.0.0.1 routing to anything.

The file is in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

I have it working...but it was either 1 of 2 things...

I'm at home and on a dsl connection as opposed to at college and on the network...Also I uninstalled apache web server...however this one shouldn't matter because all the other times that it didn't work, apache wasn't running at all anywhere...i simply uninstalled it...So that leads me to believe it was becasue I was on my college network...so i'm curious why that happened...the localhost worked but the 127.0.0.1 didn't...any answers? :S

The only thing I can think of is some odd routing issue/special computer set up. The hosts file looked ok, and the only thing I can think of would be a proxy-which you said was nonexistant. There could be a central proxy such as Bess that you don't know about...

I'm pretty sure that my college runs a proxy to anything incoming and they restrict the bandwidth and everything. They have a browser proxy that can be set so that you get much faster load times if the thing you're d/ling has been d/led before and is on their server. However I didn't have that turned on and i had it erased completely actually. But why would the http://localhost/ work and http://127.0.0.1:9999/ not work? Quite odd...but that's okay cause i'm home for the summer :) Thanks bunches

Just a quick question-does http://localhost:9999 work?
