I'm not too familiar with this. I have been using the Abyss Web server for about 6 months now along with some basic php pages, with a little 'borrowed' JavaScript. I think I want to delve into the possibilities of using the mySQL database. Something of which I know NOTHING of. I will use the Aprellium recommended installation method, as everything recommended has worked like a charm so far.
My equipment is limited to 1 machine for a web server for now. I am using for an Intranet. I just realized my short question turned into a 'blog" hehe.
Can I put MySQL on the same box as my server :?:

The short answer is 'yes'.

My P2/450 with 256MB currently handles MySQL, a mailserver, an FTP server, PHP + Perl as well as Abyss. Not only can it be done, this setup can survive a slashdotting without any problems.

Lawrence.

that's the way I do it...

It's easier to manage that way.

If you're doing heavy Database acccess and have a ton of traffic...then you could consider another box for mySQL.
