|
|
Is it possible to setup up a website using a domain like (xtreme1.mine.nu) which I got from dyndns.org with a dynamic IP.
I have IP update client already, i just want to run a web site for a DC hub.
Also im using port 81 at the moment, as 80 is used!? How can i find whats using port 80? Does it matter if im running port 81 or not
My intensions is for a web server running the above domain, so people can just type in www.xtreme1.mine.nu.
Any help/guides would he very grateful.
Thank you |

stuartornum, welcome to the forums. :)
It doesn't matter what port you use. Just set up your IP update client with the
instructions that came with it.
If you want to see what is using what port, try this little utility:

I do have it semi-working now, Thanks.
But I use DirectUpdate, and I still have to put in http://xtreme1.mine.nu:81
It doesn't work when i put the address without the port at the end?
Also is it possible to get it to work with the ''www.'' without the http:// at the front.
I found out that my firewall 'wyvernworks' is using port 80, and I have no idea how to un-assign it?
Thanks again _________________ XTREME][10mbit][SERVER - FAST ONLY]

If you're using a router, you could forward port 80 on the router to 81 on your machine and people connecting from outside the LAN wouldn't need the :81. However, I assume you're on a direct connection since you haven't mentioned the router already.
If you're running on a different port, you'll have to use the :81 or it won't connect. Without a port number specified, your browser will always try to use port 80 (http). You'll have to use DnyDNS's webhop service if you want to avoid typing in the :81.
http://www.dyndns.org/services/webhop/faq.html
I'm not sure that dyndns offer www.yourname.theirname.nu subdomains, I'll have a look through the website for you. If they do offer it, you can't use www. and no http:// until you get it running on port 80...
I've never heard of WyvernWorks before... Looking at their website it sounds like the sort of thing you get advertised in spam  The fact that when you search for them on googles the cache of the webpage shows they got hacked version isn't very reassuring!!!

It seems very odd for a firewall to be tying up the webport, unless it also includes an ad blocker, in which case it's probably redirecting advertising traffic to a mini webserver on your machine serving up blank gifs to replace adverts and avoid errors in your browser. |

The firewalls quite good (any that you know that are better?) i managed to turn off the port 80 on the firewall also, which is good, so now no :81.
My site works now without the http:// which is great.
Thank you for all your help
Stuart
P.S Could you tell me where the error pages are as i have some of my own or how to install them.
