Welp, i was working on remaking my fiances site, and i finally figured it out. Why it was breaking, and how to fix it! Well, it works in every browser now (I think) and her layout (That i made from scratch, excuse me.) is the first to test it out.

The site is practically done, besides the content, which me and my fiance are working on, so just go off of what you see here.

I use Photoshop 7.0.

I learned by going to google and searching up "Template Tutorials", which i then found a galore of sites offering tutorials to help you learn.

I used http://www.webdesignhelper.co.uk/photoshop_tutorials/photoshop_tutorials/photoshop_tutorial1to7/photoshop_tutorial1to7.shtml

To learn how to do my AOH template, which is now gone. ^^;

After learning, make it a hobby, practice, practice, practice.

(The template tut alone tought me a lot of PS7, which iam now putting it to use like never before.)

I would try and use tables for futire sites, it give the site more flexablity, so if you need to add a new link it will be easier.
But overall, the fading/highlinging links/images are cool, and the site looks decent.
Btw, I use photoshop 7 too. I use good-tutorials.com to make all my stuff...

I used tables and some CSS to do the absolute positioning, thats why it doesn't break anymore.

And it doesn't take that long to put another link there, about 2 or 3 minutes (I have to make the link image, and get the proper size, so it actually fits and doesn't look odd.)

lol......nice to see it works in all browsers..........now maybe you can see what i'm saying?

So from what I can see your tables don't line up correctly, your graphics are out of place. So I would have to give this site 3 out of 10.

one of the most incompatible sites I have seen with Opera.........maybe take a look at the link in my sig might help you? It can't do any damage, can it?

stop just supporting Ms. 6 million people now use Opera.........in fact Opera is the fast growing browser in the web's history!

Ok, why the CENSORED would i want to use some shitty browser that doesn't open pages correctly?

I'd rather support Ms.6 million then use some program that wasn't even coded correctly, and is being sold.

I mean, it works fine for me, the code is proper, works for other people. YOU MUST BE THE PROBLEM, NOT ME!

Well, mine works fine in it (except for the fact the the color of the bar / hr tag isn't black. It helps for it to work in Opera, seeing as people are using it.

Opera renders HTML more accurately than IE. Where IE will correct or allow sloppy errors, Opera doesn't. So, unfortunately, your code is the problem, not Olly86. It also renders badly in Mozilla, Firebird and Netscape. Any half decent coder should at least attempt IE and Mozilla/Netscape compatibility.

When you say it works for other people, you mean "It works for other people who all use IE." I hope you don't design any e-commerce sites for clients... "Tell your customers they're all wrong and they're the problem, that's why your e-commerce site doesn't work for them and they can't buy anything from you..."

I don't know why you bother posting any of your sites here anymore, since the least bit of constructive critiscm and you turn into a sulking child.

Note: Criticism is basically insults, its just "nicer". If you didn't know this, you must be/have been, molested, and told "its ok, you need it sometime in your life". Besides, we could avoid all of this ignorant bullshit if you would listen to me, I DON'T LIKE CRITICISM, SO IF YOUR GOING TO SAY IT, DON'T, JUST DON'T EVEN POST, PLEASE.

Another note: Everything was going fine until people with crappy browsers "complained".

Also Note: If it doesn't work for you, then i don't care, don't complain to me..you aren't worth the time to fix it. I will only fix problems for people who can actually properly view the site, so SHUSH.

I'm not even reading your post anony.

They don't have "proof" that everyone else renders wrongly, and they are the only ones correct, Unless of course they are christian, or just hypocrites.

It can be thrown either way, yeah sure, IE/Firebird/Mozilla, they al lrender wrongly and opera is the only one that does anything correct.

Or

Opera was coded by a bunch of mac loving idiots, and thats why it improperly places layers, and improperly renders html.

We have proof of neither, they are just opinions, so shush.

Besides, i'd rather have IE/Firebird/and mozilla users see it properly then just "opera" users. I mean, The three browsers together equal three hundred times more users then opera, and i know i'm right.

You all need to wake up , when your arguing on the forums and stuff aprelium hates it and I do to , their is nothing wrong with Karasu_kami's code and nothing wrong with the way his site displays , in my HTML ref book it clearly states that not all browsers are proven to be without a bug in it and it also states that the best way to create a website is using a web editor because thats the fastest way to put up a great website without knowing to much except creating the website content , now also Aprelium contacted me in my e-mail and told me that if they keep seeing this crap in the forums , they will completly shut it down , think im lieing just keep saying the stuff that you do. Karasu_kami , your work is great 8)

Trust, hold fire for a moment. This is not the sort of post Aprelium were complaining about, or if it is, there's only one person doing the insulting, using expletives and flaming... :?

Karasu,

If all you want is respect, trying giving some out as well. I've never said your site was ugly, badly designed or any other insult, I respect your skills as far as web design, colour schemes, fonts etc go - it's a nice little site. I just pointed out that should only take a little more work to make it render in more browsers. If you've put in that much hard work already, why not go for perfection rather than just close ?

Karasu Kami wrote:

If you state you think it works in every browser then you should be prepared to accept people telling you that it doesn't when they tested it, particularly if you haven't tested it yourself, just stated it works.

If you'd just stated "Here's my site, it only works in IE" no one would have bothered telling you it didn't work in Opera. Saying you will only fix problems for people who can view the site properly is an oxymoron...

Karasu Kami wrote:

As I stated, it also fails to render properly in FireBird/Mozilla, the text in the layout box to the right is in the correct position but the wrong colour. I'd be happy to include a screenshot but I'd rather not be told I've been molested as a child or have other childish insults thrown at me for my trouble.

So, if you're not prepared to accept criticism it would be nice if you stopped take it upon yourself to decide your opinion matters when it comes to judging other people's sites. If you only want positive comments on your work and aren't prepared to accept it when people point out shortcomings, just stop posting it.

Karasu, maybe Opera is crap in your view, have you ever used any thing apart from IE?

Opera is far more secure than IE, in the 3 (three) years I've been using it I've never seen a patch released sating "urgent security vulnerability" for Opera, but in the same time Ms are releaseing about 20 patches for problems that should have been detected in beta testing.

Also note: I now use a Linux operating system so I an unable to use your so-called excellent browser, and don't need to download loads of patches for security related issues each month!

Never said it was excellent, just said it wasn't as horrible, ugly, and retarded as any other browser ^^;.

Yes, i have tried other browsers, i had problems with them all, i just want something simple..so i use IE. Use what you want to use, i'm sticking to IE, all there is too it.

Me: "If it works, why change it?"
Idiot: "Because it works horribly!112@@!!one"
Me: "But it still works."

Thats like saying "The space ships work, so why use newer space shuttles." Because there may be something better (*in that case, there is).

Well, thats a totally differnt situation.

I mean, if the browser works..and your happy with what you have..why go to something that has better "features" and a "better html renderer"? I don't need some fancy (and ugly) skin or tabbed browsing to make me happy, i need sleek, simple, and clean, without annoyances, and without "special features", such as tabbed browsing. One browser, all purpose, no problems with my mood.

ok well fter extensivley going over this layout i say its a deffinate 8/10 but the drop shadows are off a bit and it needs a few touch ups otherwize its ok.

good job man. maybe you will learn to appreciate other peoples ideas and aspect on things one day. because everyone see's everything differently what you see as a "perfect" site may be seen differently by others. the thing about this world that we need is "difference" because if we all seen the same we would all get bored. so i say many different views on things will keep it interesting and make things work we need people like you but you need to take a break every so often and try on someone elses shoes and see how they see things. i tried seeing things you way and yet i seen some good things doing things your way but i aslo found that my ways have some flas like yours do as well. anywho if i ever made sence to you lets hope it wasnt now.
