I am trying to install a DB_File in the C:\Program Files\Perl\Bin directory, but I'm having problems installing it. A friend told me to click on ppm.bat to install, but the box came up then immediately dissappeared. so he told me to try ppm3-bin.bat, and the box came up and everything seemed to work, then I came up with another error. the error was... it says ppminst.bat is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I need to install the file called DB_File 1.806-PPM.5.6.tar, I am running Windows XP. I need this installed so I can run a forum on my site. Thanks in advance. _________________ Evil unchecked, grows. Evil tolerated, poisons the whole system.

goto start --> run ... then type cmd ... then type ppm ... then you should have a cmd prompt that looks like 'PPM>' without the quotes. then type in 'install db_file' and type 'y' to confirm. that should install the perl package db_file.
hope this helps

"Is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" as stated in my first post. _________________ Evil unchecked, grows. Evil tolerated, poisons the whole system.

I am still getting the error of "ppminst.bat is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" when I try to install it. I can't open just plain PPM.bat, but have to use PPM3-bin.bat to try. my PPM.bat gets a can't open error then closes. Help needed. _________________ Evil unchecked, grows. ok, now after getting that error, I tried again with just plain PPM.bat, and I'm getting this error using that one "NEITHER HKEY_lOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ActiveState/PPM/InstallLocation' found in registry at C:Program Files\Perl\bin\ppm.bat line 29"
I dunno what I'm gonna do to be able to get the forums up. This is all confusing to me since I've never really done any computer work. _________________ Evil unchecked, grows. Evil tolerated, poisons the whole system.

thats what i am saying ... forget about ppm.bat ... goto to a command prompt and at the c:> type PPM and hit enter ... then you get the PPM> then type ... install db_file ... then type 'y' to confirm the install ... and then it will decomress the package. you may also wanna install DBD::MYSQL. _________________ The-Hunter |

And I am saying that even with just that, im still getting that message about
not being recognised. When I open the command prompt, it says C:\Documents and Settings\Myname> and I type ppm, then I get that message again. This is getting frustrating. _________________ Evil unchecked, grows. Evil tolerated, poisons the whole system.

ok..i feel dumb. I just uninstalled and installed a slightly higher version of Perl, and instead of putting it in the Program Files directory, i left it in C itself. NOW I was able to install everything. Thanks for your advice folks and sorry if I was giving much trouble. I no longer have those errors and now the forums are back up. Thanks again! _________________ Evil unchecked, grows. Evil tolerated, poisons the whole system.
