I never used a CGI-BIN what programs run on it?

Most people confuse CGI with Perl. CGI is not Perl, it is just a protocol describing how programs can dialog with web servers to process forms and genrate pages.
CGI programs can be written in Perl, PHP, C, ASP, C++, Rebol, Python, Ruby, Pascal, Basic, and almost any programming language.
