I just did a search for changing file and folder permissions within Windows and there is absolutely no real help for accomplishing this.... all I keep reading is "CHMOD is a Unix Command" or "try using Linux"
Well, DUH !!! are you people really that stupid ??? how about actually offering REAL SOLUTIONS to REAL PROBLEMS instead of stupid shit like "completely change your OS in order to run a script" and telling people something they already know about Unix codes.
If people are using Windows to to run their server big deal give HELPFUL SOLUTIONS to them like:
Here is how to change file permissions in Windows
Instead of:
Use Linux
I need to change file permissions from 775 and 644 to 777 using Windows and I do not, repeat DO NOT, want to change out my OS to accomplish this.
Now, lets see some of you idiot savants (with the emphasis on IDIOT) out here can actually tell people how to do this without being complete morons. |

Sorry Eliyahu, the official answer is never "change your OS". Please read carefully our answer in http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1530&highlight=chmod . We clearly say Quote: |
If you're using Windows, you should ignore all the chmod instructions provided in the scripts installation guides. |

OK, cowboy, Windows 95, 98, ME have absolutely no file or folder permissions. Any script properly configured with its running software will work. Administrators on Windows NT and 2000 and XP Pro *can* set read and write permissions, although by default, both are enabled. Windows XP Home is like 95,98,ME. You should have no permissions problems by default. Simply make sure that on WinXP Home, your webfiles are not under your My Documents AND that account is a User only account and not an administrator account, just to be sure. Unix systems have a coherent scheme for file security completely unlike Windows. chmod is a Unix program to modify Unix file permissions. Ignore directions to use it on Windows. That's all. Also, spend some time at your local library'd or Borders/Barnes & Nobles computer book section. It will help you immensely.
