On starting Abyss for the first time in Gentoo Linux, i am encountering error:

 	  | Code: |

Abyss Web Server X1 (v 2.6)

Copyright (C) Aprelium - 2001-2009

Critical: Cannot execute the server using root privileges (key: root/server/parameters/opsys/sysgroup - file: /usr/local/abyssws/abyss.conf - line: 0 - col: 0) |

so i su to normal user, reattempt, this time receiving error:

 	  | Code: |

Abyss Web Server X1 (v 2.6)

Error: No such file or directory (key: /root/console/bindip - file: /usr/local/abyssws/abyss.conf - line: 0 - col: 0)

after downloading the source file, i execute:

 	  | Code: |

tar xzfm abwsx1.tgz |

cd into the direcotory and run:

then i get the aforementioned errors.

thanks moxxnixx, i will give this a shot when i get home. i used to use aprelium on my windoze box, and i LOVE the software. i was starting to think i'd have to go back to Apache, which is fun, but quite a bit less user friendly.

i'll post the results back here once i'm able to give it a go...

too bad i've been specifically banned from accessing the home-box via SSH from work, now i'm gonna be eager all day... :)

edit: you know, on thinking about this... the notion of giving the server root power makes me a wee bit nervous... seems like if the server were compromised this could lead to some issues... any chance i could use the user & group "apache" that's set up for apache to run under? |

				nath.e.will,

The solution is easy. Just install Abyss Web Server as a normal user and later run the script which sets it up as a service. This will handle all the required operations (starts a root to gte ports < 1024, and later switch to a less priviledged account). _________________ Support Team
