|
|
Due to the wonderful American economy, I've had plans now to change my gigantic, power-hungry Dell PowerEdge server into something else, and replace my webserver with a Shuttle XPC (which I already have). My plan is to save some cash by doing so.
My question is though, to put Abyss on this other computer, is this the same as the initial install on my Dell server? I'm running X2, that's why I'm not sure if there's any sort of licensing issue with that (I plan on removing it from the Dell).
Also, can I just copy my configuration file to the new server to transfer all of the URL rewrites, host names, settings, etc?
Thanks,

Provided Abyss is installed to the same location, and the files are also in the same location, then the current config file should work just fine. I had to edit a few little things when I did mine but I changed the install location and the location of my sites too.
As long as locations remain the same, you're good to go. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

copy your website to an attached usb disk. then set an alias to this usb drive.
same procedure on the new server.
you should then be able to simply unplug the usb disk, hook it up the the new box and you should be up and running quite fast. _________________ have fun

I'm actually going to be re-installing Abyss on this new box, and since it's a paid version, that's where the question comes into play...
I will transfer all of my site files to an intermediate computer in the mean time over the network, as I feel that would be easy.
As for the USB suggestion -- I've considered running a site off of a USB thumbdrive, mostly because there's nearly no power draw there. However I've read that they have limited write cycles, and I'd hate to lose code over $0.18 worth of electricity savings over a century.
P.S. The value above was fictitious and stated purely for LULZ. _________________ Audit the secure configuration of your server headers! |
