Hello all,
I have just finished making my DNS Server for Windows tutorial on AbyssUnderground. I have only just started to run my own DNS server so I thought while the information is fresh in my mind I should make the tutorial for everyone to try.

However I must warn you its not easy!

You rock. I have set up Dns servers in linux but never really got it. But reading your tutorial was fantastic. The only think I don't like is having to purchase a windows server.
Would window home server work for this?

Providing Windows Home Server has the DNS server function yes it should work just fine.

What is this in referral to? What is there to make publically available?

Thats not what this is for. This is for hosting your own domains from home. Not for other people to use.
You could let someone use your server but they would have no way to update the DNS records unless you did it for them through the DNS panel on your server. And if your server goes down so does their domain. Personally I wouldn't take that role on.

Not to mention the security risk and risk of a big law case if some one can gain access to the DNS server. One should have a very good background in TCP/IP and DNS before making a public accessable DNS server.
