Lost connection to MySQL server during query in

Hi

when I try connecting to a database with mysql_connect() or mysql_pconnect() I get an error generated:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server during query in

I've tried several things but with no success. I don't know if it is a server or a coding issue.

Can somebody shed some light onto that matter?
