Hey, im a complete n00b at this i think.. iv installed the free version of abyss. Iv made my webpages and i made one that is temporary so its my index page.. my i.p is
10.0.0.6 I tried to access it on my computer as http://10.0.0.6/index.htm
It worked! but if i ask someone else to view it or if i go on it on my sisters computer it says page cannot be displayed. I would LOVE it if someone could possibly help?
system information that might help:
i have a router... a safecom one. Im requred to port forward i asume? so i have port forward to 8000 - 8010 as tcp and udp on my routers i.p whcihc is 172.203.128.232 but it still wont let remote users access it. i also have not touched the settings of abyss. Im a total n00b at this but id like to make a website. not bothered about a domain name as i have no clue how to do that either. =[
thank you very much for any help. |

You have your IP addresses confused :)
10.0.0.6 is your computers address on the LOCAL network ie. the one assigend to it by your router.
172.203.128.232 is your actual internet IP (specifically the internet (or "WAN") ip of your router as assigned by your ISP.
So, your friends need to go to http://172.203.128.232 and you need to set port forwarding in your router to forward TCP http (usually port 80 but you mention 8000 so maybe you have changed that in Abyss setup) to your PC at 10.0.0.6 and then all should be well.
Note, you may NOT be able to access yourself as 172.203... because some routers do not let you do this - they assume that any request originating from withing their network and aimed at their IP is an attempt to access their setup page and only requests coming from "outside" get forwarded). |
