I've noticed that the Abyss Web Server Wikipedia Article hasn't existed for quite some time (was deleted because of supposed advertising a long time ago) so I decided to create it. I just made an article saying that it is a Web Server and what platforms it supports (including internal links for things such as a web server)....and they deleted it within like 10 minutes...they also removed the Aprelium article. What's with that?...does someone hate Aprelium/Abyss Web Server or something? _________________ -Blake | New Server :D

rrinc,
The Aprelium article was there until last week at least. The deletion log
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Aprelium says that:
"21:07, 1 August 2007 Irishguy (Talk | contribs) deleted "Aprelium" (CSD A7 (Corp): Article about a company that doesn't assert significance)"
We don't like to show off but these guys are probably not aware that searching for "Web server" on Google reutrns links on Aprelium/Abyss Web Server in the first page of the results just after Apache. Also "free web server" returns Abyss Web Server as the first result. So by Wikipedia editors standards, what kind of "significance" a company should achieve to have its entry there?
(By the way, there are many minor other web server authors listed there which are not as popular as Abyss Web Server. Why aren't they removed).
Since we cannot interfere with such a decision, we ask you to discuss the deletion of that article with that editor (IrishGuy) in hist talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Irishguy#Deletion_of_B_David_Article . Just explain that you are not affiliated with us and give him a hint or two about the "significance" of Aprelium (or otherwise the insignificance of any Web server other than Apache). _________________ Follow @abyssws on Twitter

The guy replied saying:
Quote: | Neither article asserted any level of importance or notabilty. The Aprelium article was literally two sentences long | Who is he to judge such a thing...articles have to start somewhere (in this case, small). Maybe if we put up a more detailed page...however I've seen the web archived copy of the article from awhile ago, it had factual relevant information and yet they deleted it also (saying there was advertising, though it was only a list of features and it stated the price of X2). _________________ -Blake | New Server :D

I thought wikipedia is a place where you can post stuff about anything? Now I learn that some jerk deletes users articles because he feels that it's not important? He only deleted it because he hates Abyss Web Server for some reason. I don't know, but I think it's against the first amendment in my opinion. The information about Abyss Web Server is freedom of speech and he has no God given right to delete the article!
Any of you interested in starting a article about Irishguy? :evil:

rrinc,
Why don't you post your wiki entry and we'll all make a collaborative effort to "polish" it up?
Wikipedia is very strict in their submission quidelines. Without seeing what you submitted,
I have no way of knowing why they're refusing it. |

Omg, I can't believe it was deleted!
Lets recreate it but instead of listing bullet points, write some information on each bullet point, like how the anti-hacking works, etc. Maybe this will shut the guy up.
Either that or complain directly to wikipedia and tell them how much of an ass he is being :-) _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I say we do both! Write an informative entry and complain about Irishguy!
Clearly, he can't be the ONLY one that approves entries for Wikipedia.
Check this out...I found about a dozen web servers with less info than what rrinc submitted.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web_servers
I think TRUSTAbyss might have a point about him having a beef with Abyss. |

Just because he doesn't like Abyss it doesn't mean he can remove it. Lets write an e-mail and get in touch with them. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

A collaborative article, lets start with (Wikicode):
Code: | Abyss Web Server is a web server for Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and FreeBSD, created by Aprelium Technologies.

Release Versions
Abyss Web Server comes in two forms: X1 and X2.
X1
X1 is freeware with features which include:
* HTTP 0.9, 1.0 and 1.1 support
* CGI-Scripting (Scripting such as PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, Python etc.)
* Fast-CGI
* Built-in password protection
* Statistics
* Bandwidth throttling
* IP-restrictions
* Remote/local administration (GUI)
* Anti-hack protection
* Anti-Leeching
* Custom Error Pages (404, 403, 401, etc.)
* No nag-screens, no limitations
X2
X2 is a commercial, paid version of the web server, providing the same functionality as X1, but with several enhancements:
* Virtual hosting (Multiple hosts/domains on one server)
* Extended bandwidth control
* Faster support

Thanks a lot for your efforts and your support. If you need any technical information about Abyss Web Server to polish this article, please feel free to ask.
May be it would be interesting to add some history about the project: http://abyss.sourceforge.net/ . _________________ Support Team

We should first include the history of Abyss Web Server and where the company is located. We should also show them how Abyss compares to other server software and why it's so unique. Linking them to the ServerWatch.com Review won't hurt either. ;-)
Kind regards, Josh |

You know what, we should make our own wiki. Not just an article, but the whole thing lol. Hell, ill even host it on my host (it wouldn't be powered by abyss, but it would be reliable and fast if we get a lot of volume)
IDK, what do you think, im not much for wiki (didn't like how you configure it) but i know its used a lot. _________________ Where have i been? School got heck-tick, had to move half way around the state, then back... and then i had to change jobs, so iv been away for a while :P |

aprelium,
Apparently the bad boys from Wikipedia did not hit this time. Today, we found in our referrers log http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abyss_Web_Server and apparently someone managed to enter the article without getting it removed in no time.
But the current blurb is highly "commercial" per Wikipedia standards. Terms like "no nag screens" are suitable for our web site but sound like "ads" for Wikipedia editors.
So we kindly ask you to update the article and remove anything that may sound like an advertizement. It would be better if the article becomes more factual.
You could for example add a section about the software history ( sources http://abyss.sf.net and http://www.aprelium.com/news ). You could also add a change log enumerating what was added with each release.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thanks. _________________ Support Team

No, because Uncyclopedia.org's article takes the fun out of it and Wikia (WikiMedia's Wikipedia's enemy) uses Abyss and Wikipedia uses Apache. |
