I have several directories with working files in "Word" and "Excel" that data is placed. One being a grade books ffor students. The problem is that one data is entered it must be saved in the parent directory as an updated file so that when reopened the data is current.
Is there a way for this to be done?
There was a question in 2003 on this same subject and it is unclear about this concept. One suggested WebDAV, which I do not understand.
This is an important issue for I meed to solve this probem to place the system online for continuous updates to the files.

The easiest way is by using an FTP server. The user would download the file, edit it, then re-upload the changed file back to the server.

The second option, which is a little more difficult, would be to find an online editor which acted like Word and allowed you to change it using the webpage, then hit save to save the changes.

I don't have experienced individuals that would understand FTP functions. You mentioned an on line editor. Microsoft has OWC which I think is what you are referring to as an online editor. Frankly, I'm not that experienced with configuring this sort of omplexed application. I do that there is a simple solution, but how?
When I used the network and map the index file with giving full rights to the users for the files they can edit the "Word" file or "Excel" and it will "Save" to the "parent directory" that the files are in. I know that it is now on a server and it doesn't allow "Save" when opened in "Explorer" as before. The option of "Save" CTRL+S doesn't work. Instead you receive the option to save "yes" "no" or "Cancel" -- If you click "yes" than the default window appears and the individual must select the "parent directory" to save the file back.
I tried TweakUI" but it did not work. Now I'm looking at a program call "DropBOX" but not sure if this will work either. I know that this is a problem for I'v read a lot of articles and everyone seems to have a solution but none work.
Your time is wel received if you could tell me of an editor and how to configure for all users to understand the functions.
