Is there a way for Abyss (or something else for this case) to play a sound when my site is being visited?

Have a look at NetChimes.
Quote: | Finally a tool that gives webmasters what they really want -- real-time feedback!
netChimes is an innovative mix between a web log analyzer and an instant messenger.
Instead of receiving messages from your friends, netChimes receives messages from
your server, and notifies you when users are accessing any page on your site.
netChimes has an attractive skinned interface, is highly configurable, easy to use, and
comes ready to use with 20 fun sounds. Get netChimes now, and starting listening to
what your server is doing! |
I've never tried it, but it sounds promising.
BTW, welcome to the forums. ;) |

Great! I try that. Thanks.
It'd be nice to have that feature in Abyss. I'll suggest this for the next upgrade.
I understand that most people have thousands of visitors and to hear a sound every time someone visits the website would be annoying. However, there's got to be lots of people like me who just starting and wold like this feature.
I (noob) wouldn't think this is a big deal to include in Abyss. Maybe as a plugin?
Thanks again.

If you are a starter, just as you say, well, just start and keep an eye at the flashing traybar-icon.
I am sure a bell or beep will get me crazy. In my opinion it is not a serious extra for a webserver. The Abyss Webserver is a serious tool and not a nice gadget to play with. Let us keep it the way it is. |

Oh I totally agree.
I believe I'm not asking much, I'm I? I'm not asking for a hula hula dancer to give a show and kiss my monitor when I get a visitor. Look it up this way: everybody have different needs respecting Abyss. The same way Abyss shows a little green "play" sign when someone is visiting your website, that has no use for me because I run Abyss in a tower without a monitor. Once I set it up I never touch it again. If I need to transfer files I do it over network or ftp and if I need to modify something I do it with the remote desktop.
Since my website is not a high traffic site, a sound wouldn't be as annoying to me as for people with hundreds of daily visits.
I get lucky when I get 20 visits a day, if that, but a gentle little sound when I get a visit would make happy.
I believe Abyss could come up with that option. I'm not a genius but if it can show me the green "play" image, it can definitely play a sound. They could even set it OFF by default.
If this is not the case and it is a big deal to play a sound oh well...thogh luck for me. A sound would let me know my services are being promoted.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the help so far!

It's not difficult. But it's not also a very popular feature.
Actually, we cannot implement all "easy" features just because they are easy to code. If we do so, Abyss Web Server will be the most bloated software ever and we'll have to write a 1000 page documentation to explain how each function works.
What you need is small utility that plays a soud whenver the access.log file gets updated (which occurs when a request is received). _________________ Support Team
