|
|
iframes is one of the coolest ideas since javascript... It gives you the ability to show an external webpage inline on your page as if it were an image... Though it sounds great theirs so far some major shortcomings with it...
Does anyone know of any alternatives to using an iframe besides the object tag? Would you please be kind enough to shine some light on this subject? I've been up since 8 in the morning trying to figure this out and I am short of an answer for it at 4PM...
Heres the dilemma I am experiencing with iframes...
an iframe with a height attribute of 100% collapses under IE6 if the window is resized... An absolute value for height in replace of 100% is a temporary fix... I have dynamic web pages I expect to grow beyond any fixed height and some links on an iframed page link to content that is either a lot shorter or greater in height...
Much like javascript includes I would like to call in a page that resizes on every page link and would not collapse if the window is resized... As cross platform as possible and which can be called from a plain HTML page...
I can only edit the page that is doing the calling *not the page being called*... Is anyone in here sharp enough to come up with a solution for this problem?
I am on WinXP and need a script which can supplement the iframe tag yet be as cross platformed as possible... Much like javascript includes...
I havent a clue as to how to start writing one and would appreciate as much light on this subject as possible...
I have php, asp and perl ready to rock but really would rather use a javascript if possible... Any ideas?
Thank you for reading my post :) _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez

Thank you for the prompt response Aprelium. iframes have a problem that microsoft doesn't bother to address in regards to iframes... I was curious of any alternatives such as javascript includes... I tried SSI but am completely stumped about it... I think I am on to something in regards to js.
By any chance would you know of a function like the following?
location.replace("http://www.yahoo.com");
That function replaces my entire page but what I need is a function similar but more like a newsfeed... I am trying to give away a script in which when someone puts it on their site it shows my webpage in a box or something...
This isn't for someone else and is for me only but it should have that function... Simply loads a page as a function...
I am not that sharp in javascript and am still looking...
Thanks for the suggestion and link Aprelium, I am still open for more till I solve this task :) _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez
