I have noticed that I am continually getting this in my access logs:

It's coming from my system, but I don't understand what is looking for update.dat. I have php, activeperl and mysql installed, along with argosoft mail and ftp, but I don't understand how these would affect it. Is this an abyss problem? I also noticed it's happening exactly every 5 mins.

No1? I cant understand it. I know what the log lines mean, apart from the 880 on the end, what's that for?

880 is the size of the answer to that request in bytes.
You should turn extended logging on to know which program sent that requests from inside your computer. For example, you should know that Windows XP can send such internal requests.

I now get this....I'm guessing this means a webbrowser is trying to access update.dat on my pc? This is kinda odd as it is exactly every 5 mins, and no such file exists... :?

Strange!!! It seems that your browser is asking for that file. Any other similar cases?
