1. Upgrade to a higher package from your ISP. Higher packages often have higher upload speeds.
2. For page loading times use gZip compression (this requires php).
3. For dynamic page render times, upgrade to a faster server, with more ram.
These are some of the things you can try. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Thanks for your reply!
I have an Internet connection with at least 10 MBps(shared with my neighbours) and a server with Pentium 800 MHz and at least 256 Mb RAM(Could be 100Mbs and 512 MB, don’t remember :roll:) The site is built in ASP.
Maybe I just make the mistake to compare with my current host when experience the upload speed slow. My expectations might be too high.
Cheers! |

10Mbps often has 386-768Kbps upload speed, maybe even 1Mbps upload speed if you're lucky. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I am having a similar problem. However, it is not site loading time. When my users try to download large files, the speed is somewhere around 10-15kbps and sometimes 30kbps. I have a 300kbps connection speed from my ISP and have not set bandwidth limits for my server. My server pc is also very fast and capable to allow lots of traffic. If anyone has some pointers, I would appreciate it. _________________

30KB/s or 30Kbps? They're two different things. ISP's measure in Kbps where as browsers measure in KB/s. If you're getting 30KB/s on a 300Kbps upload connection, its doing perfect.
Kbps = KB/s * 8
KB/s = Kbps / 8 _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Sorry, I guess I had a bit of confusion with the terminology. I have not actually seen if my site downloads at 30kb/sec but my friends have tested it and had that download speed from my connection. I don't think that I'll be upgrading my internet connection any time soon. I think I'll just split large files and have users download them in pieces. _________________

downloading in pieces isn't really going to save any time. it will still equal the same amount of time if it was just the full package. i would look into a better zipping file or agent. dont ask me what, cuz i'm still a noobie at this... but i was just trying 2 give an answer. mayb i am incorrect but i think it will still be the same amount of time anyways good luck in the future |

WinRAR is your best bet. Compress it on Best mode and it should reduce the filesize significantly. The person downloading it however will need WinRAR unless you make a self extracting executable. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

7zip has also very good compression ratios (in comparison with Zip, gzip, and sometimes even with bzip2). _________________ Support Team
