yes i have the same problem as Server One Host i do not have a file named winmysqladmin.exe all i have is a file named mysqladmin.exe and when i run it i get a command screen that just flashes up and no imysql icon in taskbar and no process running any help plz

If your running on a Win9x version , I would recommend running MySQL in
the background , to do this go to C:\MySQL\bin and click mysqld_opt.exe.

Note: If this is a Windows NT type of Operating system , you should be able
to get away with just using the MySQL green light tray icon program. LateR!

im running winxp pro sp2 and like i said i dont have winmysqladmin.exe all i have is mysqladmin.exe and when i run it it only flashes a command screen then disapares thats all and i dont have mysql_opt.exe either

ok i was using version 4.1 of mysql so i went and downloaded version 4.0 and it works so im just going to use it

Is there a guide for setting up MySQL 4.1?

Hi all,

I've been working on installing MySQL for days now. Here's what I've got:

Sony VAIO PII 400MHz w/Win98 (old isn't always a bad thing)
256Mb RAM
Abyss running on dedicated 10Gb drive
PHP

The first thing I did was try v 4 of MySQL...nothing...couldn't even get the traffic light icon in the systray

Removed that version and downloaded and installed v 5 of MySQL...VOILA!!! Grenn light!

NOW, I can't even get a username/password dialog in order to administer the program so I can't even get past the 1st step to using MySQL.

Anyone have any suggestions???

ive installd MySql to C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\Database\mysql
created a MySql Database

Im using mysql-4.1.10a for Windows

when i run mysqladmin.exe
it just pops up and nothing happends, i didnt even catch what it said in comand prompt No green or red light

k i was able to run the dos exe files throught Command.com

i copyed it over from the C:\windows\system_32 to the folder i wanted it in

it runs the files, but nothing happens, just alot of spamming lol

Hi,
i got green light for a few seconds and then it lights red again.
First thought was that Windows Firewall has blocked MySQL port - so i allowed this port to be opened - still changes to red.

In WinMySQLadmin1.4->Environment->MyODBC is shown error "Not Found". Question is - what is not found? There is nothing else written except "Not Found". I searched for *.err file and got nothing.
My.ini file seems to be correct.

(I use WinXP, Abyss Web Server, MySQL 4.1, MyODBC.)
What should I do!?

i followed your tutorial to the letter no green light when i did the ini file it asked if i wanted to replace the file said yes could that be why any ideas to how i can rectify this problem

I'm running my server as a windows service. I don't even have a taskbar icon. How do I know if MySQL is running? I assume it's not, since I can't seem to run mysql.exe succesfully...

Open your Task Manager to see if mysqld-nt.exe is running.

I can't get to my task manager :-[... it's a used computer, so every time I try to open the task manager it tells me that an my computer administrator has disabled it... even though I am a system adimn and have the only user account.

ok i think i did everything right just when I run the config program and that last little part about the InnoDB or whatever and I tell it too go into database/mysql folder and hit next hit stops at the part where it is confirming the second thing what is wrong

i think it has something to do with the my.ini it is looking at the my.ini file not in where i put it IN WINDOWS but in the abyss web server folder

ive installed mysql and i can not find any file called mysqladmin i have even used the file search with windows there just isnt a file called mysqladmin any were on my computer

I think this is winmysqladmin you are looking for, it should be the one that looks like traffic lights.

ok i opened mysqladmin.exe but it just closed instantly so i went into the cmd and did the cd stuff and accessed it. But when i do it just says a bunch of options but no traffic light at all :( Please help me.

Followed your steps, but I think they are out of date and I don't know enough to know what to do!

winmyssladmin does not exist in mysql5.0- it was apparently removed a couple of versions ago.

So I have Abyss web server at C:\Abyss Web Server
The mysql server at C:\Abyss Web Server\database\mysql

a my.ini file that has the contents...
[mysqld]
basedir=C:\Abyss Web Server\database\mysql
datadir=C:\Abyss Web Server\database\mysqldata

at C:\WINDOWS\my.ini

But note that Mysql has its own my.ini in its directory which has abunch of stuff in it!

I have created a quick test script in php

$link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'mysql_user', 'mysql_password');
if (!$link) {
die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error());
}
echo 'Connected successfully';
?>

And it returns

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in C:\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\mysqltest.php on line 4

I have PHP 5.0 installed
There are no traffic lights - Abyss is a windows service as is mysql
The Abyss logo thingie is in teh system tray - is the traffic light part of that?

Help!

The aprellium boys have preconfigured PHP 5.0 to work with abyss and mysql - see end of thread http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6470

Just need to try it and then fiddle with the mysql now it doesn't have winmysqladmin!

the config program of MySQL can install a service for you, this program is run automatically after setup has finished.

I'm having an odd problem with my mySQL install. I've gone through the tutorial a couple times now and I have the same problem each time:

I install it, it works great. I even install phpmyadmin over it and all works well. Any time I restart mySQL, I can't connect though. On the Enviornment tab in winmysqladmin.exe, under MyODBC, it says "Not Found Driver 3.51 Not Found"

With no connection info. I did password protect my mySQL db via the phpmyadmin tutorial. Did I have to change anything in the winmysqladmin.exe configuration?

Any ideas? Thanks.

Which type should I download- I downloaded "Without installer (unzip in C:\)" ("mysql-noinstall-5.0.19-win32.zip")

I can't find "winmysqladmin.exe" I can only find "mysqladmin.exe" and when I open this nothing happens, exept a flash of a command prompt like the other guys.

Do I have to open it via command prompt?

HELP! :(

jamesthemagician, winmysqladmin.exe is not included in MySQL anymore.
They've done away with the "traffic lights".

You should download the version with the installer and do a default installation.

PLEASE HELP!!! i installed it in C:/program files/abyss web server/database/mysql/

i made the my.ini file and i did it right and saved it in C:\windows

but when i click the exe in the bin folder, no light comes up!! nothing!! not red or green!!! can someone please help? what did i do wrong? thanks!!

EDIT: i just read the above post, does that mean it works if nothing comes up except the flash of a command prompt? thanks

I've tried that time and time again and nothing works. No error messages but phpMyAdmin says MySQL is missing

Damnit, all of you forget about the green light.
On the assumption you're using windows NT or above, run mysqld-nt.exe, and check if it's still running in task manager after it forks.

If it is, congradulations it works, otherwise it sucks to be you.

Wow, no replies in over 2 years? That's surprising, considering the info is uselessly outdated... Since the original author seems to be long gone, would someone who knows how to do this please start a new thread with the current recipe? And could that thread be the one that's linked to from the Abyss FAQ? I'd love to know how to set up Abyss with MySQL, and I'm sure I'm not the only one...

A forum search provides nothing (that I could find) in the way of instruction on how to install the current version of MySQL with Abyss, nor do your links, which are broken.

For a tutorial linked to from the FAQ, you'd expect the information to be of some use, but it's simply not - at least not with MySQL v5.

I wouldn't think it too much trouble for someone in the know to write up a fresh tutorial for the forum.
