|
|
Hey, I have searched the forums and found a million topics on this but I cant seem to find the problem. I have opened port 80 on my router i think, on the windows firewall even tho its not on and on my firewall(comodo firewall) but still port 80 isnt open!
This is seriously making me mad why isnt it open? I am on a wireless connection to my laptop from a netopia router and the router is connected to my main computer the desktop through LAN. Windows XP Home SP2. Need to know more? |

1. Turn off firewall totally, both of them
2. Port forward to the lan IP of the computer running the server. Make sure it also has a static LAN IP for best results.
3. Check your ISP doesn't block port 80. Easy check is to use another port like 81. Remember to change the port forwarding settings if you do this.
Also wireless is a bad choice for a server if that was your intention. Wired will be much more reliable. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Go to www.abyssunderground.co.uk/ip and post your IP so I can try. Your router might not support loopback so others can see it but you can't. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I just restarted my router and it works! Since port 80 is open I checked it out on a ip scanner and my ip is obvisouly alive with a port open is this dangerous? will hackers easily be able to get in? |

It depends on the open port. Port 80 is for HTTP and has to be open for it to work, so it all depends on the software you run. Abyss has never been hacked through before but you can be hacked through your scripting languages if you make a bad script with security holes in it. Nothing can prevent this except fixing the holes.

Thats your local address, not your IP address. This is why I said go to www.abyssunderground.co.uk/ip to get your internet IP. It will work on the local link but might not work on the internet IP. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

The 192.168.*.* IP range is for local use only, routers assign IP addresses on your LAN from this range. On the internet, those IP addresses aren't accessible, you have to give others your external IP address. You can click "What is my IP?" in my signature to find out yours or goto http://www.aprelium.com/ip/. You use port forwarding so that it will forward requests on your external IP address to your internal (LAN) IP address. _________________ -Blake | New Server :D

You still have not correctly configured:
1. firewall
2. router
3. the port might be blocked by your ISP so try another _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Ok something weird. When I do an ip scan on this computer it comes up as alive and with port 80 open. Then when i do it on my desktop computer its alive but port 80 isnt open, then i try this http://tools.randomresources.org/test.php and port 80 is closed it says. What could this mean? |

It means you don't have it forwarded. You need to forward port 80 to your server's lan IP address (the 192.168.*.* type address). _________________ -Blake | New Server :D

Goto your router's configuration page, goto port forwarding, and add port 80 to forward to your server's IP address (the 192.* type address). _________________ -Blake | New Server :D
