HTTP Authentication

Hey,
I have added http authentication to some of my domains, that I want to be private. When I enter the web address and press enter; I have to wait a ~10 seconds before the login box comes up, does anybody have any ideas why it is doing this?

On all of the unprotected pages they load instantly

I have tried restarting the abyssws processes, that had no effect. I also know that it cant be the servers upload because I have 100Mbps

Yes, the authentication is using the Password Protection in Abyss..

I have just tried this, and their is one request, which is at the time of the me trying to access the restricted area, but the dialogue did not show untill 13 seconds after that request.

I do notice that it takes a few seconds to load a User Authentication prompt on my server too.

After further testing, it seems that the Default Host takes the longest to load the User Authentication prompt.

Explanation:

It seems as though the Default Host has to try the request twice for the User Authentication to show up. However, when I test the other Hosts for User Authentication, they load it just fine. Anyway, like AbyssUnderground said, it's a weird bug.

Can you please provide us with a couple URLs which exhibit such a behavior? Is it browser dependant or does all browsers you test act the same way?

All browsers have this delay. Here's the URLs that you can test this with. You should notice a difference in speed from the Virtual Host.

http://trustabyss.com/awstats/ (Default Host)
http://pba.trustabyss.com/awstats/ (Virtual Host)

I clicked both urls above and found no difference in speed for the authentification boxes to appear. They both appeared nearly instantly.

I have just clicked both of them and the default host takes a couple more seconds to appear than the virtual host

Can you guys tell me the browser you're using? The people who say that it appears the same time as the Default Host? I use both Firefox and I.E. and I see the delay. Default Host is about 2 secs while the Vhost is about half a sec. Even with me on the same network, I can still see the difference between the two hosts.

I am using Opera 9.21 which shows no time difference between the appearance of the authentification boxes.

IE6 takes maybe 2 seconds using default host and instantly on virtual host

I'm using the Opera web browser to test for the delays and they still happen.
