Maybe installing and using captcha for each forum post would help in deterring unruly spammers from abusing the board!
This is one of my most favorite forums and yet its being torn down by vandals. Aprelium, your attention appears to be much needed now before this goes uncontrollably wrong. _________________

Captcha is the answer if it was a bot that was posting all of the spam messages.
As it is, it seems its a person.
Also, where would the captcha be placed?
At registraton?
Just before positing? _________________ Anthony R

The only solution is to make someone in this forum a Moderator. People who
spend time in the forums alot and who have been here for a long time make
good candidates. I would say AbyssUnderground + Me. :-) |

We are deleting this spam usually no longer than 6 hours after it is posted. Even with many moderators, deletions could not be immediate (mods could not be here 24/24, they have a life too).
The captcha won't help too as all these spammers do their dirty job manually. By the way, the registration is protected by a captcha. _________________ Support Team

Good Point!
I believe we should still try and get some Moderators in here. Andy and I live in
different time zones. It's not up for me to decide this though. |

I agree on the moderation, a forum I moderate has about 5 mods and 2 admins, and because of timezone differences, there is usually always someone online who can deal with spam. _________________ Yarrt.com - Free Arcade

Yes there is a law about profit making company’s having voluntary workers it can lead to the company paying out compensation for your services. Equipment used for the job your doing e.t.c the case I have experience with cost the company an estimated One hundred thousand pounds in legal fees. |

Have you got anything in writing? Not for proof, just so we can see whats involved in this "law". _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

No you will have to look for it. Also I can not provide proof as I will get in trouble. Maybe something you should think about is why aprelium don’t allow donations. This Could be for similar reasons. But I am talking about law in the UK I’m not sure about other places. But I am sure they will have something similar. |

Interesting... I have helped out several UK and US based companies for free, wonder if they knew about this law _________________ Yarrt.com - Free Arcade

Hmm... I doubt that this law (if there ever was one) has been correctly interpreted to impede from helping out businesses for free.
You see, by simply giving quality-based comments, responses, feedbacks and even complaints, you are already helping out the company substantially by cutting their R&D costs - and in many cases, this can be very significant.
In the case of a public web-based forum on auxiliary support for the Abyss webserver software, the law in subject may not duly apply.
---
On another note, I was indeed talking about captcha for each and every forum post. I understand that captcha is already used during registration. Anyways, it appears that forum residents here do not like the idea. I see more and more forums from other sites installing captcha for every forum post though.
Anyways, I realize some spammers are just too diligent to even manually add a spam post all over the board time and time again. It's sad but it's a reality. Until a viable solution comes thenceforth, there's beer. _________________

That's what occurred during the last days. A spammer have spent more than 15 minutes on the forum to post manually 30 messages. So a captcha wouldn't have stopped him/her. _________________ Support Team

Once again, captcha is worthless. The only solution to avoid spam from new users is to moderate first posts (or first x posts) making their effort entirely wasted. _________________
