Hey gang:

Recently, I added a software called "DynDNS" so it would update everytime my IP address changes. But my IP address continues changing! How do I stop that? I believe I'm on a static status. I do not use port 80 because it's blocked, so I use 8000. I hope I don't need anymore software.

I wish there was a way to just use something like"www.mysite.com" instead of IP's. Oh well.. :?

Chances are on your end outside of DynDNS you have no control over your changing IP address. It is the best option so far for a dynamic IP address.

You cannot stop your IP address from changing. You will have to pay your ISP more if you would like a static IP address. Since you're most likely happy with your service but the IP keeps changing, DynDNS is your best option.

DynDNS doesn't stop your IP from changing. It will update a static address such as http://www.eaglefox.dyndns.org everytime your IP changes....

You map your changing address to http://www.eaglefox.dyndns.org
Your address changes + Client updates your static address = http://www.eaglefox.dyndns.org is mapped to your latest IP

You do need a third party client for DynDNS and I am sure they have a resource page somewhere on their site where you can download one. It'll sit on your machine and monitor your IP... When your IP changes, the 3rd party software will monitor the change and update the static address which will map back to your new IP.

It definitely is the best option so far for dynamic "changing" IPs

I hope I was a little clearer this time :) Good luck ;)

Okay, yes I now understand. Thanks.

But now I need to know if my customers logging onto my website use my static address "www.eaglefox.dyndns.org" or the numeric "http://0.0.0.0"?

If they use the IP, you'll have to update them by email manually everytime it changes and you will have to manually change the thousands of ads you put out...

Or you can simply give everyone your www.eaglefox.dyndns.org and let the service and software do it for you :)

Yeah give out the www.eaglefox.dyndns.org, its your best bet :)

They do also have a premium service which should (dont hold me to it) allow you to host your own domain and if you have a port like 8000 I believe they'll hide it... So it is possible with their service you can host www.eaglefox.com without a port number...

Not sure dont flame me if I am wrong. It shouldn't cost that much either... Good luck :)

Why would I flame someone who is a great help to me like you Victor? :D

Okay, I'll do that what you suggest, because it would be a hassle for me to have to continuosly update them of my IP address. I just hope the port does not get blocked.

Thanks again Victor for your gracious help. It's most appreciated. :D

You should'nt have to edit any configuration files unless you have "scripts" which dependently count on it. Abyss doesn't count on any.

Emptying your browser cache and a refresh of the page might help. Starting a new thread will also help and your best bet is to clarify further exactly what the problem is...

If by any chance the problem is you cannot access your webpage publicly search for the answer on this board... I have answered that question many times and have seen it answered many times...

So in the end, search first then ask questions later... If you ask, make sure to clarify your OS, software versions, detailed problems and a very detailed trial error experience so far as not to have someone tell you to do something you've already tried...

Good luck :)
