I have no idea what I am doing, so therefore, I am asking before, I make some big mistakes.
I would like to set up a forum using php-BB.
The question is what should I do first. In order to save me some major headaches.
Once again I have no idea on what I am doing. I am not a code writer.
I am a player with 3-D graphics programs. And that is where I want to be able to help people. And I believe a forum could help, me to help others.
And I have had some very good help, from people here and I do appreciate. I have been jumping around searching for information however it just goes over my head.
So please help this dummy. Thank you. |

Hi AbyssUnderground
I wish to thank you, for your tutorials. I have visited the web site many times. However do I just install PhpBB and that's all.
Or is there requirements for other programs to be installed as well, what about a e-mail program. Which ones should I install first.
Totally confused after reading many post.
Remember I am a dummy.
And please hold my hand through the process.
Thank you very much for your reply. |

It tells you on the phpbb tutorial page what you require to install it. Pay more attention! _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Yes it does. You cant use phpMyAdmin without php and without mysql... so thats the logical order to install them in. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Hi AbyssUnderground, "Thank You", very much appreciate.
For your help, in clearing up my confusion. And the proper way to install what programs first, osso confused me as well.
Knowing myself I would have done everything backwards, then I would have a big mess on my hands then I would be really in big trouble.
I did not know this.

I did not know where I read a e-mail program is required along with PhpBB. That is what completely confused me.
Now to get to work, once again thank you very much for your help. And your tutorials as well. |

There is trouble in River City.
I was able to get, mysql to work.
However the PHP 5 when testing just shows a web page error.
PhpMyAdmin, will not work properly either.
Suggestions would be extremely appreciated, I have work one whole day trying. With little to know success.
Thank you very much for your offering to help this dummy to configure his server in order to use, phpbb. |

PHP5 doesnt work with some MySQL versions (as it states on the tutorial).
I suggest using one of these combinations:
PHP4 with MySQL 4.0.24 (I use this one)
PHP5 with MySQL 4.1
These combinations work. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

Hi AbyssUnderground
PHP5 with MySQL 4.1
I believe I am going to try working on one thing at a time until it is working properly.
I was using the combination of PHP 5.1.4 from, http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/php5win.html
Here is a question, do I use the default when installing, PHP5 that is preconfigured by Aprelium? Or do I do this, correct folder in (your htdocs). I am hosting two web sites.
Than following your tutorial in order to, test did not work, all I got was a blank web site page. Not the nice graphics shown on your web site.
With MySQL4.1.20 form, http://www.abyssunderground.co.uk/tutorials-mysql4-1.php and followed the tutorials.
However this I will worry about after I know that the PHP 5, is working.
I wish to "thank you" very much for your patience, and of course your assistance. |

Finally got it working, when making the test data, I made a mistake.
You must have the test data, with an your web site, or where, you have your Html.
In order for the php 5, to work properly. |
